Project Management Intern

JHC Consulting

The Project Management Intern role at JHC Consulting is designed for a junior professional who values the rigors of high level advisory work. This position exists to maintain the order and tempo of our consulting mandates, ensuring that our principals can focus on the critical analysis our clients require. We are currently supporting a major infrastructure development group as they restructure their internal governance frameworks, and this mandate requires careful coordination to ensure our counsel remains precise and timely.

The Role

In this role, your work centers on the logistical health of our engagements. You will be responsible for tracking the progress of various mandates from initial intake to the final signed memorandum. The work is largely focused on the management of information and the protection of the firm's standards. Your day to day activities will include:

  • Maintaining the schedule for various advisory mandates and tracking internal deadlines for draft submissions.
  • Coordinating the flow of background research and source material provided by our clients.
  • Ensuring that every document produced by the firm undergoes the necessary rounds of internal scrutiny and revision before it reaches a principal.
  • Managing the distribution of memoranda to board committees and chief executives, ensuring that we maintain a clear record of all counsel provided.
  • Organizing documentation and maintaining the digital archives for our long term engagements.
  • Liaising with client assistants to schedule the brief remote discussions that bookend our written work.
  • Assisting in the formatting and final proofreading of our signatures to ensure visual and structural consistency.

What You Bring

We look for individuals who demonstrate intellectual maturity and a high degree of organization. This is an internship, so we do not expect a long history of professional management, but we do require a clear aptitude for structured work. You should have a background in business, law, or the humanities where clarity of argument is prized. Specifically, we need:

  • Outstanding writing ability: You must be able to express complex logistical updates in plain, direct English.
  • An understanding that writing is thinking: You should enjoy the process of drafting and refining text.
  • The ability to handle highly confidential information with absolute discretion.
  • A preference for simple tools over complex project management software.
  • Attentiveness to detail that allows you to spot inconsistencies in a forty page memorandum.
  • The ability to work independently in a remote setting without constant supervision.
  • A natural inclination toward order and the ability to organize others' schedules effectively.

How We Work

JHC Consulting operates differently than most firms. We do not use slide decks or visual presentations. We believe that the written word is the only way to reach the depth of thought required for governance and strategy. Every piece of work we produce is a signed memorandum. This means that the work is not a team product; it is the work of a single author who takes full responsibility for their argument. In your role, you are the guardian of this process, ensuring that the author has the materials and the time they need to produce their best thinking.

Working at JHC Consulting

This is a fully remote position. We are a distributed practice and we rely on asynchronous work to allow our members the quiet and focus necessary for deep reading and writing. You will have a high degree of autonomy in how you structure your day, provided that the mandates remain on schedule. We value silence and focus over constant real time conversation. This position is a full time internship and is paid. The compensation is competitive for the role and reflecting the high standards of the firm. You will be working directly with principals who have held senior roles in corporate finance and strategic advisory, providing a unique vantage point on how major organizations are governed.

Every memorandum we issue is filed as a permanent record of our counsel. We take this responsibility seriously because our names are at the foot of every page. As a Project Management Intern, you ensure that the path to that final signed document is clear, rigorous, and disciplined. We look for those who take pride in the integrity of the process and who understand that the quality of our coordination is what allows the quality of our thinking to emerge.
