SUMMARY

An established leader in the South African food manufacturing industry is seeking a qualified

Mechanical Fitter to join its Engineering team in Krugersdorp. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on artisan who enjoys working in a fast-paced FMCG production environment where reliability, safety, and continuous improvement are key.

POSITION INFO

Key Responsibilities Perform planned, preventative, and breakdown maintenance on production and packaging machinery. Diagnose and repair mechanical faults to minimise downtime and maximise plant availability. Install, assemble, align, and commission mechanical equipment. Overhaul pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, bearings, motors, valves, and other production equipment. Conduct routine inspections, lubrication, and equipment servicing in accordance with maintenance schedules. Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical manuals. Complete maintenance documentation and update the CMMS system where applicable. Ensure compliance with food safety, quality, health, safety, and environmental standards. Assist with plant improvement projects, equipment modifications, and new machinery installations. Work closely with production teams to improve equipment reliability and efficiency. Participate in standby, call-outs, and shift work when required. Minimum Requirements Grade 12 (Matric). Qualified Mechanical Fitter with a recognised Trade Test. N3 Mechanical Engineering qualification will be advantageous. Minimum 3-5 years' post-trade experience in an FMCG, food manufacturing, or production environment. Strong knowledge of conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, bearings, hydraulics, pneumatics, and packaging equipment. Basic electrical fault-finding knowledge will be advantageous. Experience working with preventative maintenance systems (CMMS) is beneficial. Ability to read engineering drawings and troubleshoot mechanical failures. Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills. Preferred Competencies Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic ability. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. Ability to work under pressure in a production environment. Good planning and organisational skills. Safety-conscious with a continuous improvement mindset.
