SUMMARY

Number Two Piggeries is seeking a motivated and hands-on Maintenance Assistant to join our team at Alexandershoek Farm. This position offers an exciting opportunity for an individual with a strong interest in pig farming and a passion for maintenance work, particularly electrical maintenance.

The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining farm infrastructure, equipment, and electrical systems while also assisting with the day-to-day operations of a Farrow-to-Wean pig production unit. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a practical farming environment and is eager to develop their skills within the piggery industry.

POSITION INFO

Key Responsibilities Maintenance Duties Perform preventative and reactive maintenance on farm equipment and facilities. Assist with electrical maintenance, fault-finding, and repairs. Conduct routine inspections of electrical systems, pumps, motors, ventilation systems, and other farm equipment. Ensure all maintenance work is completed safely and effectively. Maintain tools, equipment, and workshop areas in good working order. Assist with general repairs, plumbing, welding, and other maintenance tasks as required. Farm Duties Assist with the daily operations of the Farrow-to-Wean unit. Support animal care activities, including feeding, monitoring animal health, and maintaining cleanliness of facilities. Assist with the movement and handling of pigs when required. Ensure biosecurity and hygiene protocols are adhered to at all times. Support the farm management team during busy operational periods. Minimum Requirements Minimum of 2 to 3 years' experience in a maintenance-related role. Strong electrical maintenance knowledge and practical experience. Basic fault-finding and troubleshooting skills. Ability to use maintenance tools and equipment safely. Valid South African driver's licence. Physically fit and willing to work in a farming environment. Willingness to assist with both maintenance and livestock-related duties. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Good communication skills and a strong work ethic. Preferred Requirements Previous experience in an agricultural or farming environment. Exposure to piggery operations or livestock farming. Basic welding, plumbing, or mechanical maintenance skills. Relevant technical qualification in electrical maintenance or a related field. Personal Attributes Keen interest in pig farming and animal production. Reliable, responsible, and proactive. Strong problem-solving skills. Practical and hands-on approach to work.
