Our client in Montague Gardens, a leader within the wholesale meat and frozen food industry, is looking for a Procurement Officer to join their growing team.
The Procurement Officer is responsible for the efficient sourcing, purchasing, and management of inventory and non-inventory products to support business operations. The role ensures that stock is procured at the best possible cost, quality, and delivery terms while maintaining supplier relationships and ensuring product availability across the business.
The Procurement Officer supports inventory optimization, cost control, and procurement compliance in line with company policies and operational requirements.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Procurement & Purchasing
- Source products from approved suppliers in accordance with company procurement policies.
- Create and process purchase orders accurately and timeously.
- Monitor stock levels and replenish inventory to maintain optimal stock availability.
- Ensure timely ordering of products to prevent stock shortages and supply disruptions.
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and supply agreements with suppliers.
- Obtain quotations and evaluate suppliers based on pricing, quality, service, and delivery performance.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and alternative sourcing options.
Supplier Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers.
- Liaise with suppliers regarding product availability, pricing, lead times, and delivery schedules.
- Resolve supplier-related queries, shortages, pricing discrepancies, and delivery issues.
- Monitor supplier performance and recommend improvements where necessary.
- Assist with supplier onboarding and documentation requirements.
Inventory & Stock Control
- Monitor inventory levels and purchasing trends.
- Work closely with Warehouse, Operations, and Sales teams to forecast demand requirements.
- Assist in managing slow-moving, excess, and obsolete stock.
- Ensure product availability while minimizing overstocking and carrying costs.
- Participate in stock takes and inventory reconciliation processes.
- Assist with maintaining accurate product and supplier information within the ERP system.
Reporting & Administration
- Prepare procurement reports and purchasing analysis.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records and supplier documentation.
- Update pricing schedules and supplier agreements.
- Ensure procurement activities are fully documented and auditable.
- Assist with budget monitoring and cost control initiatives.
- Generate reports on supplier performance, purchasing trends, and stock requirements.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with company procurement policies and approval procedures.
- Verify supplier documentation and compliance requirements.
- Assist in mitigating supply chain risks through supplier diversification and contingency planning.
- Monitor market conditions and industry trends affecting product availability and pricing.
- Ensure ethical procurement practices are maintained at all times.
REQUIREMENTS
- Grade 12 (Matric) – mandatory.
- Relevant qualification in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, or a related field.
- Minimum 3–5 years' procurement or purchasing experience.
- Experience within FMCG, wholesale distribution, food service, or related industries.
- Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong understanding of inventory management and procurement processes.
- Valid driver's licence advantageous.
SALARY
R22 000 – R26 000 (negotiable)
