VENTILATION OBSERVER (GRADING B5)
Qualifying Criteria
- Grade 12 (Matric), preferably with Mathematics and Physical Science.
- Practical certificate in Mine Environmental Control (preferable)
- Previous experience in an underground mining environment is advantageous.
- Knowledge of Mine Health & Safety Act (MHSA) and ventilation regulations.
- Physically fit and able to work underground in demanding conditions.
- Computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, data capturing).
- South African Citizenship
- Clear Criminal Record
Responsibilities
- Conduct routine ventilation measurements (airflow, air velocity, temperature, humidity, gas concentrations, etc.).
- Record and report on environmental conditions in accordance with MHSA and internal procedures.
- Assist in maintaining ventilation control structures such as doors, stoppings, brattices, regulators, and seals.
- Support the Ventilation Officer with ventilation inspections and hazard identification.
- Monitoring surface and underground occupational exposure conditions regarding dust control, gases and vapor, noise, water, temperature, illumination and pressure.
- Ensure measuring instruments are handled correctly, calibrated, and stored safely.
- Report abnormal ventilation conditions immediately and recommend corrective measures.
- Assist in preparing ventilation reports, plans, and compliance documents.
- Promote ventilation safety awareness and adherence to legal ventilation standards.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, collective agreements, and statutory regulations.
- Conduct all work according to required standards and specifications
