Conveyor Belt Splicer

Purpose of the Role

The Conveyor Belt Splicer is responsible for installing, splicing, repairing and maintaining conveyor belt systems to ensure safe, reliable and efficient maintenance operations. The incumbent will also participate in related rubber engineering activities, including rubber lining and pulley lagging, while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality and workmanship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, splice and repair steel cord and fabric conveyor belts.
  • Carry out hot, cold and mechanical belt splicing.
  • Perform conveyor belt inspections and identify defects.
  • Conduct pulley lagging and rubber lining work.
  • Replace damaged belt sections and repair belt tears.
  • Complete preventative and breakdown maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with client specifications and OEM standards.
  • Complete all required maintenance documentation and reports.
  • Maintain tools, equipment and work areas in a safe condition.
  • Adhere to all Mine Health & Safety Act (MHSA), OHS Act and client safety procedures.
  • Participate in risk assessments, PTOs, JSA/PTRA and toolbox talks.
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards.
  • Assist with shutdown planning and execution.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 10 minimum.
  • Conveyor Belt Splicing qualification or recognised competency.
  • Minimum 3 years' conveyor belt splicing experience.
  • Experience with hot and cold vulcanising.
  • Valid driver's licence (advantageous).
  • Medically fit for mining and heavy industrial environments.
  • Ability to work shifts, overtime and shutdowns.

Conveyor Belt Splicing Supervisor

Purpose of the Role

The Conveyor Belt Splicing Supervisor is responsible for installing, splicing, repairing, maintaining and supervising conveyor belt operations to ensure safe, reliable and efficient maintenance execution.

In addition, the incumbent will oversee related activities such as rubber lining and pulley lagging while providing leadership to field teams, ensuring compliance with safety requirements, maintaining quality standards and liaising with clients and site management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise conveyor belt splicing teams.
  • Plan, coordinate and execute maintenance activities.
  • Install, splice and repair conveyor belts where required.
  • Supervise hot and cold vulcanising operations.
  • Supervise rubber lining and pulley lagging projects.
  • Conduct daily planning meetings and toolbox talks.
  • Allocate labour, equipment and resources.
  • Monitor productivity and work quality.
  • Ensure compliance with MHSA, OHS Act and client procedures.
  • Conduct risk assessments, PTOs, JSAs/PTRAs and workplace inspections.
  • Ensure PPE compliance.
  • Liaise with clients, production personnel and maintenance teams.
  • Compile daily reports, shutdown reports and timesheets.
  • Mentor and develop junior employees.
  • Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure proper housekeeping and equipment maintenance.
  • Drive continuous improvement and cost-effective maintenance practices.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 10 minimum.
  • Conveyor Belt Splicing qualification.
  • Supervisor or Team Leader experience.
  • Minimum 5 years' conveyor belt maintenance experience.
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • Computer literacy (MS Office).
  • Medically fit for mining environments.

Conveyor Belt Splicer Assistant

Purpose of the Role

The Conveyor Belt Splicer Assistant supports qualified Belt Splicers and Supervisors in the installation, repair and maintenance of conveyor belt systems. The role assists with preparing work areas, handling tools and materials, performing basic maintenance activities and ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently.

The successful candidate will gain practical experience in conveyor belt splicing, rubber lining and pulley lagging while developing the skills required to become a qualified Belt Splicer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with conveyor belt installation and splicing.
  • Prepare work areas before maintenance begins.
  • Load, transport and maintain tools and equipment.
  • Assist with hot and cold vulcanising activities.
  • Support pulley lagging and rubber lining work.
  • Assist in belt inspections and fault identification.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards.
  • Ensure PPE compliance.
  • Participate in toolbox talks and safety meetings.
  • Assist with shutdown and breakdown maintenance.
  • Follow instructions from Belt Splicers and Supervisors.
  • Maintain work quality and productivity.
  • Complete basic maintenance records where required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 10 Minimum.
  • Previous industrial or mining experience will be advantageous.
  • Physically fit and medically fit for mining environments.
  • Willingness to work shifts, overtime and shutdowns.
  • Valid driver's licence (advantageous).
