SA Stud Book and Animal Improvement Association, registering authority for the stud livestock
industry, invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position:
Technical Support Officer.
The candidate will be a highly organised, detail-oriented, and motivated individual responsible
for providing comprehensive technical and operational support to the Genetic & Professional
Advisory Services Department of SA Stud Book. The successful candidate will be responsible
for the accurate capture, processing, maintenance, and management of departmental and
genomic data, ensuring its accuracy, integrity, security, and confidentiality. The role also serves
as a key communication point between breeders, laboratories, service providers, and internal
stakeholders, facilitating the timely exchange of information and ensuring the smooth
coordination of genomic testing and related services. This position plays an integral role in
supporting the department's daily operations, maintaining accurate records, contributing to the
efficient delivery of genetic and advisory services, and upholding the high standards of data
quality required for genomic analyses and reporting.
1) Minimum Requirements
a) BscAgric Animal Science or equivalent BscAgric or BscHons degree
b) Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and
PowerPoint)
c) 1-2 years’ of work experience in the field of Animal Breeding and Genetics.
d) Valid driver’s license
2) Preferred Qualifications and Experience
a) A qualification in Animal Breeding and Genetics will be advantageous
b) Knowledge and use of computer packages in the analysis of genomic data
c) Knowledge of the LOGIX system
d) Experience in pedigree livestock administration
e) Experience in data capturing and database management (SQL, Open-source)

3) Key Responsibilities
a) Provide technical support to the Genetics and Professional Advisory Services Department
b) Capture, verify and maintain genomic data on operational databases
c) Parentage Verification and Discovery using genomic data
d) Assist clients and stakeholders with genomic-related administrative inquiries
e) Prepare correspondence, reports and other documentation
f) Ensure accurate record keeping and data integrity
h) Perform general office administration
i) Carry out additional duties as reasonably assigned
