Client Management & Service Delivery

  • Manage allocated tax engagements including compliance and advisory tasks.
  • Prepare and review tax individual computations, returns, and opinions.
  • Manage SARS, including correspondence, audits, verifications, dispute resolution processes, and the drafting of objections and appeals where required.
  • Liaise directly with clients to address tax queries, provide practical solutions, and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Monitor engagement progress, client deliverables, and statutory deadlines to ensure compliance with service level expectations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve client tax positions and provide proactive tax planning recommendations.

Technical Review & Support

  • Review deliverables prepared by Consultants and Trainees to ensure technical accuracy and compliance.
  • Provide technical tax input on standard and moderately complex matters across various tax disciplines.
  • Conduct tax research and interpret legislation, case law, and SARS guidance to support client engagements and internal knowledge sharing.
  • Keep abreast of legislative developments and communicate relevant tax updates to the team and clients.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining tax methodologies, templates, and technical resources.

Practice Management

  • Manage WIP, recoverability and billable hours for own portfolio.
  • Contribute to the preparation and monitoring of client budgets, billing processes and debtors management.
  • Enforce adherence to risk management procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, quality control standards, and risk management procedures.
  • Assist with resource planning and workload allocation to meet client and business objectives.

People Management

  • Supervise, mentor and coach Consultants and Trainees, providing guidance on technical and professional matters.
  • Participate in performance evaluations, goal setting and career development discussions.
  • Review work performed by junior team members and provide constructive feedback to support their development.
  • Participate in performance evaluations, goal setting, and career development discussions.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance team culture aligned with the firm's values and objectives.

Business Development Support

  • Identify tax risks, savings opportunities and efficiencies within client portfolios and communicate these effectively to clients and management.
  • Support the preparation of proposals, and client presentations to support new business acquisition and growth opportunities within existing client accounts.
  • Build early-stage client relationships with clients and key stakeholders to support client retention and growth.
  • Contribute to thought leadership initiatives, including articles, webinars, client alerts, and technical presentations.
  • Identify cross-selling and upselling opportunities across service lines and assist in expanding the firm's client base.

Qualifications

  • CA(SA), or Masters in Tax (or equivalent)

Experience

  • Minimum 4–5 years tax experience in a professional services firm.
  • Experience in reviewing tax work and supervising junior team members
