SUMMARY

Duties And Qualifications

Position Overview

A Structural Revit Draughtsman is responsible for producing accurate, high-quality structural drawings and Building Information Modelling (BIM) models using Autodesk Revit. The role supports structural engineers by preparing construction documentation, coordinating multidisciplinary models, and ensuring all drawings comply with project specifications, engineering standards, and relevant building regulations.

Key Duties And Responsibilities

Structural Drafting & Modelling

• Prepare detailed structural drawings and 3D models using Autodesk Revit.
• Produce reinforced concrete, structural steel, masonry, and timber detailing.
• Develop General Arrangement (GA) drawings, sections, elevations, and detailed construction drawings.
• Convert engineering sketches and mark-ups into accurate construction documentation.
• Update drawings throughout the project lifecycle based on engineering revisions.
• Ensure drawings meet company drafting standards and client requirements.

BIM Coordination

• Develop and maintain BIM models for structural projects.
• Coordinate structural models with architectural, civil, mechanical, and electrical disciplines.
• Participate in clash detection and model coordination meetings.
• Resolve coordination issues within the BIM environment.
• Ensure model accuracy, consistency, and compliance with BIM standards.

Technical Documentation

• Prepare:
• Reinforcement detailing
• Steel fabrication drawings
• Concrete layouts
• Foundation layouts
• Structural framing plans
• Beam schedules
• Column schedules
• Slab layouts
• Sections and detail drawings
• Issue drawings for review, tender, construction, and as-built purposes.

Quality Assurance

• Review drawings for completeness and accuracy before submission.
• Ensure all revisions are correctly incorporated.
• Maintain drawing registers and document control procedures.
• Follow company quality management systems and drafting standards.
• Assist in implementing BIM best practices.

Project Coordination

• Work closely with Structural Engineers and Project Managers.
• Attend project coordination meetings when required.
• Assist with technical queries during construction.
• Coordinate revisions received from engineers and clients.
• Meet project deadlines and drawing issue schedules.

Site Support

• Assist with site inspections where required.
• Update drawings based on site changes.
• Prepare as-built documentation.
• Respond to contractor drawing queries.

Software & Technology

• Produce drawings using:
• Autodesk Revit Structure
• AutoCAD
• Navisworks (advantageous)
• BIM 360 / Autodesk Construction Cloud (advantageous)
• Microsoft Office
• Maintain accurate digital project records.

POSITION INFO

Minimum Qualifications National Diploma or Certificate in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architectural Technology, or Draughting. Autodesk Certified Professional (Revit) (advantageous). BIM certification (advantageous). Experience 3-8 years' experience as a Structural Revit Draughtsman within an engineering consulting environment. Experience working on commercial, industrial, residential, retail, healthcare, and infrastructure projects. Experience producing construction documentation. Knowledge of reinforced concrete and structural steel detailing. Experience with multidisciplinary BIM coordination. Technical Skills Advanced Autodesk Revit Structure. Strong AutoCAD skills. Knowledge of BIM workflows. Structural detailing knowledge. Ability to read and interpret engineering calculations and structural designs. Understanding of South African building regulations and SANS standards. Experience with model coordination and clash detection. Excellent drawing presentation and detailing skills. Strong document management skills.
