Summary of the role

The Senior Analyst: Project Finance and M&A will play a key role in the Project Finance and M&A team, supporting in the preparation, development and optimization of financial models to support the CFO function. In conjunction with other team members this, role will help manage and lead the modelling process as it relates to all project finance, corporate finance, project development, valuation, capital raising, treasury, and M&A activities.

The role will suit an ambitious candidate looking to manage and lead complex financial modelling workstreams while building on their existing financial modelling skillset. The role will provide exposure to cutting edge financial modelling such as multi-phased projects, battery energy storage and bespoke financial instruments and will provide first-hand exposure to corporate finance, project finance and M&A activities, including strategy, financing documentation and commercial negotiations.

What you will do

  • Design, build and maintain highly complex and cutting-edge financial models for renewable energy projects including:
    • Leading key financial modelling workstreams including presentation of outputs
    • Solving complex and bespoke problems
    • Analysis of cash flows
    • Ability to audit/sense check a financial model quickly and succinctly to ensure outputs are reasonable in order to make quick, correct commercial decisions
    • Ability to challenge those providing inputs to ensure an accurate representation of the risks and rewards is prepared and presented
  • Accurate management of information flows used to maintain financial models and support decision making
  • Take responsibility for structural integrity and functionality of models, including accounting, tax and regulatory requirements of various markets
  • Perform market analysis to support key corporate finance, project finance and M&A activities
  • Support other teams across the CFO function with relevant financial analysis
  • Support the acquisition, investment, tender, bidding and financial close activities of multi-billion Rand projects
  • Contribute towards commercial negotiations and assumptions included within such models, highlighting potential efficiencies and risk areas on acquisitions, investments, disposals and associated funding activities
  • Work internally as part of multi-functional teams to assess markets and projects as required
  • Clear financial analysis and communication of results to internal stakeholders

What we require

  • At least 2 - 4 years’ financial modelling experience
  • Renewable energy or wider energy industry experience is desirable
  • Must be self-motivated and be able to take initiative
  • Ability to work within a team and support other departments, as required
  • Commercial awareness and ability to highlight potential efficiencies and areas of concern within models that require further analysis or support
  • Robust financial analysis and excellent understanding of financial statements
  • Ability to analyse qualitative and quantitative information for decision making
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proficient with MS Excel and the MS Office Suite
  • Knowledge of VBA is an advantage
