A little more about your role

WSP Africa’s Power & Energy team is looking for an experienced Project Planner to join our Midrand office. You will develop, maintain and control integrated schedules across engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning activities, providing the reliable planning insight needed to deliver complex energy projects safely, on time and in line with contractual requirements.

This opportunity offers exposure to power generation, transmission, substations, renewable energy and related infrastructure projects. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, commercial teams, clients and contractors, turning detailed project information into clear schedules, forecasts and practical recovery plans.

Your responsibilities will include

• Developing, maintaining and updating integrated baseline and detailed project schedules using Primavera P6 and, where required, Microsoft Project.

• Creating work breakdown structures, milestones, logic, calendars, resource loading and cost loading aligned with contract and delivery requirements.

• Integrating engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and contractor programmes into a coherent master schedule.

• Monitoring actual progress against approved baselines and analysing critical paths, float, variances, trends and forecast completion dates.

• Preparing schedule narratives, look-ahead plans, S-curves, dashboards, earned-value metrics and progress reports.

• Identifying schedule risks and constraints, facilitating recovery planning and recommending corrective action.

• Supporting tender programmes, change control, delay analysis, extension-of-time assessments and contractual reporting.

• Coordinating planning inputs across multidisciplinary teams and confidently challenging incomplete or unrealistic information.

About you

• A relevant diploma or degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or a related discipline.

• At least five years’ project planning and scheduling experience within engineering, construction or major capital projects.

• Demonstrable experience in power generation, transmission, substations, renewable energy or related infrastructure.

• Advanced Primavera P6 proficiency; Microsoft Project and advanced Microsoft Excel capability will be advantageous.

• A sound understanding of EPC and multidisciplinary project lifecycles, including engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning.

• Proven capability in critical-path analysis, resource loading, progress measurement, forecasting and schedule-performance reporting.

• Experience in change control, delay analysis and extension-of-time support will be advantageous.

• Familiarity with NEC or FIDIC contracts will be advantageous.
