RCL Foods is currently recruiting for a Quality Control Monitor to join our Milling Division based in Pretoria West. The successful candidate will be responsible for effectively monitoring and maintaining all relevant food safety systems.

Duties & Responsibilities

External Analysis

Compile a customer database that stipulates their external analysis needs and continuously update to keep it current.

Identify and submit all samples requiring external analytical/microbiological testing on a daily basis. Ensuring that testing is as per customer requirements and it is completed timeously to avoid shipping delays.

Managing environmental monitoring program, ensuring swabs are taken as per the testing schedule.

Managing external testing samples, by ensuring all samples are taken aseptically to avoid cross-contamination.

Managing external analytical/ chemical tests as per the testing schedule.

Evaluate and trend results to ensure compliance to specification.

Identify any non-conforming product, communicating this information to the relevant stakeholders and assisting the QA Technologist and Senior QAT in determining the root cause and corrective action for the non-conformance.

Trending of non-conforming results to establish possible areas for improvement.

Recording of all results on relevant database.

Actively participating in the QC Internal Sensory panel for batch to batch sensory verification

FOOD SAFETY

Conduct all food safety training needs for the plant

Conduct weekly hygiene/GMP audits

Conduct glass and hard plastic checks as per schedule

Conduct cleaning and sanitation checks- Post cleaning checks.

Manage and monitor allergen management program in the plant

Collect and review daily food safety checks from the plant and take proper actions when needed.

Conduct daily staff hygiene checks

Assist in managing pest control program within the site.

Assist in preparing for external food safety audits

Conduct annual mock recall or traceability exercises and feedback on the performance.

Quality Control

Perform analytical testing and sensory evaluation on raw materials and final goods to determine compliance to the specification. Following set RCL FOODS COATING Test methods and procedures at all times and ensuring that testing is completed timeously to avoid shipping delays

Identify any non-conforming product, communicating this information to the relevant stakeholders and assisting the QA Technologist in determining the root cause and corrective action for the non-conformance.

Together with the QA Technologist, establish testing plans for all new raw materials and final products.

Recording of all results on relevant database and release for products not requiring positive Micro release.

Ensuring that samples that require external testing are placed in the appropriate areas for sending.

Actively participating in the QC Internal Sensory panel for batch to batch sensory verification

Ensure compliance to Good Lab Practices, Good Housekeeping Practices.

Maintain stock levels of all consumables required to perform analytical testing.

Ensure retention samples are retained as per the product shelf life and that they are readily accessible in the event of a customer complaint.

Sending pre-shipment samples to the relevant customers.

Assist with information required for Monthly QC Lab Report

Sensory

Prepare and perform routine sensory analysis on identified products. This will include but not be limited to:

Compiling a daily schedule to prioritise sample evaluation

Compiling of master sheets for sensory testing

Preparing and setting up of all sensory tests

Data capturing from sensory panel’s feedback

Data analysis

Filing of all reports

Checking and reporting on stock of sensory consumables

Using experience and Technical Knowledge to make quality decisions involved in pass, fail and concession of materials as dictated by the business needs, whilst applying the appropriate standards of integrity

Managing the performance of the QC Sensory panel through regular training, calibration and feedback. This includes recruitment of new panel members when needed.

Identifying golden standards for product evaluation.

Co-ordinate and conduct application analysis for all new products/project briefs.

Updating the sensory analysis procedure when necessary

To actively participate in the investigations and resolution of customer complaints and implement corrective actions to prevent re-occurrence.

Minimum Requirements

National diploma in Biotech/ food science/ Food technology

Advantageous:

  • Consumer Science/ Food Science/ B.Tech. Food technology
  • ISO 22000 implementation/ FSSC 22000;
  • HACCP.
