Mechanical Fitter - Benoni An opportunity for a qualified Mechanical Fitter to ensure the safe and reliable operation of production machinery through planned maintenance, breakdown repairs, and technical production support . About Our Client The client operates in a manufacturing and production environment . They specialize in operations involving hydraulic, pneumatic, injection moulding, crimping, and cable processing machinery . The Role: Mechanical Fitter The Mechanical Fitter is responsible for maintaining the safe and reliable operation of production equipment through scheduled preventative maintenance, prompt breakdown repairs, and fault finding . The position supports production through machine setup, adjustments, and changeovers to minimize downtime and maintain equipment availability . Additionally, the role ensures all maintenance, breakdown, and repair activities are accurately documented according to company procedures and Integrated Management System (IMS) requirements . Key Responsibilities Bring a minimum of 3-5 years'' relevant experience in a manufacturing or production environment . Perform scheduled, planned, and preventative maintenance, inspect machinery for wear or damage, and replace defective components . Respond promptly to breakdowns, diagnose mechanical faults, make necessary repairs or adjustments, and test machinery prior to returning it to production . Assist production with machine setting, tooling changes, adjustments, and changeovers . Maintain and fault-find basic hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including inspecting hoses, valves, and cylinders for leaks or pressure loss . Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and manuals to install, assemble, align, or modify mechanical equipment . Maintain accurate maintenance documentation, including work orders, breakdown reports, planned maintenance records, and machine downtime logs . Comply with Occupational Health and Safety regulations, apply lockout procedures, and ensure all safety guards are reinstated following maintenance . About You Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience in a manufacturing or production environment . Recognized Mechanical Fitter Trade Test Certificate . Minimum N3 Mechanical Engineering qualification or equivalent technical qualification . Proven experience in planned, preventative, and breakdown maintenance, mechanical fault finding, machine setting, and changeovers . Ability to read engineering drawings, execute precision fitting and alignment, and use measuring equipment within required tolerances . Strong problem-solving skills, safety awareness, attention to detail, accountability, and the ability to work independently or in a team . Ability to work shifts, overtime, standby, and call-outs in a physical, manufacturing environment . Working knowledge of hydraulic/pneumatic systems, injection moulding, crimping machines, cable processing equipment, mechanical drives, gearboxes, pumps, welding, and root-cause analysis is advantageous .
