Sales Engineer (Valves and Pumps)

Jag Site Support

JAG Site Support is a performance-driven industrial services company operating in a very demanding engineering, maintenance, workshop, shutdown and site-support environments. Our work requires discipline, speed, accuracy, accountability and strong administrative control.

JAG Site Support is looking for a disciplined, technically curious and commercially aggressive Sales Engineer to grow our pumps, valves and industrial mechanical-services business.

We are not looking for someone who wants to carry the title “Sales Engineer” while waiting for enquiries to arrive.

We are looking for a Sales Engineer who can identify target plants, open doors, reach engineers and maintenance decision-makers, uncover operational problems, generate RFQs, prepare commercially sound proposals, close orders and follow every sale through to invoicing and payment.

The successful candidate must be comfortable selling into demanding industrial environments where credibility, technical understanding, persistence and accurate follow-up matter.

THE ROLE

You will be responsible for developing and managing sales opportunities involving:

  • Industrial valve supply, repair and refurbishment
  • Control, isolation, safety, slurry and process valves
  • Pump supply, repair and refurbishment
  • Mine dewatering, process-water, slurry and utility pumps
  • Valve testing and certification
  • Pump and valve maintenance contracts
  • Shutdown and planned-maintenance support
  • Emergency breakdown support
  • Mechanical engineering and site services
  • Replacement of obsolete or long-lead equipment
  • Technical assessments and reliability-improvement solutions

TARGET MARKETS

You will approach and develop clients in:

  • Mining and mineral processing
  • Power generation
  • Petrochemical and chemical processing
  • Oil terminals and refineries
  • Water and wastewater treatment
  • Pulp and paper
  • Sugar, food and beverage manufacturing
  • Steel, cement and heavy industry

WHAT YOU WILL BE EXPECTED TO DO

You will be required to:

  1. Build and maintain a qualified sales pipeline of at least five times your monthly target.
  2. Identify and approach named target accounts instead of relying only on incoming enquiries.
  3. Secure meetings with maintenance managers, engineers, reliability teams, plant managers and procurement personnel.
  4. Understand the client’s technical and operational problem before proposing a solution.
  5. Generate new RFQs and convert them into profitable purchase orders.
  6. Conduct site visits and gather accurate technical information.
  7. Work with JAG’s technical and operations teams to develop suitable solutions.
  8. Prepare accurate quotations and follow them through to a commercial decision.
  9. Record the true objection or blocker on every open opportunity.
  10. Maintain accurate estimated close dates, next actions and follow-up dates.
  11. Track every sale from quotation through PO, job execution, invoicing and payment.
  12. Develop new clients while growing existing accounts.
  13. Complete vendor-registration and supplier-development processes.
  14. Submit accurate daily and weekly sales reports.
  15. Escalate stuck strategic opportunities to management early.
  16. Protect JAG’s margins and avoid irresponsible discounting.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must have:

  • At least three years of successful business-to-business sales experience in an industrial, engineering, mining, power, chemical, water or manufacturing environment
  • Evidence of personally generating and closing sales
  • Experience building a pipeline rather than only responding to RFQs
  • A valid driver’s licence
  • Willingness to travel and visit industrial sites
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Confidence communicating with engineers, maintenance teams, plant personnel and procurement departments
  • Good Excel, email, CRM and sales-reporting ability
  • The discipline to update sales activity every day
  • The ability to understand technical drawings, specifications or equipment information, or the willingness and capacity to learn quickly

A technical qualification in mechanical engineering, fitting, valves, pumps, instrumentation or a related field will be advantageous.

YOU ARE LIKELY TO SUCCEED IF YOU

  • Prospect without being constantly supervised
  • Ask intelligent technical and commercial questions
  • Keep promises and appointments
  • Follow up consistently without becoming careless or irritating
  • Can explain why a deal will close, when it will close and what may prevent it from closing
  • Take responsibility for your pipeline and monthly target
  • Are comfortable being measured on results
  • Learn from lost quotations
  • Keep accurate records
  • Work well with operations, engineering, finance and management
  • Have the confidence to approach large industrial organisations
  • Understand that activity without conversion is not sales performance

DO NOT APPLY IF

  • You expect the company to give you all your leads
  • You only have retail, call-centre or counter-sales experience and no evidence of industrial business development
  • You avoid cold calling, prospecting or site visits
  • You believe submitting a quotation means the sales job is complete
  • You regularly blame pricing, the economy, competitors or clients for missing targets
  • You are uncomfortable with technical products
  • You do not maintain accurate records
  • You dislike daily reporting and accountability
  • You want a fixed salary without being measured on results
  • You frequently miss appointments, deadlines or follow-ups
  • You cannot provide evidence of sales you personally generated and closed
  • You are looking for a position where you can “learn sales” without first demonstrating discipline, hunger and personal responsibility

HOW PERFORMANCE WILL BE MEASURED

Performance will include:

  • Monthly sales achieved
  • Gross profit and margin quality
  • New-client sales
  • Qualified pipeline coverage
  • RFQs generated
  • Quote-to-order conversion
  • Vendor registrations completed
  • Number of technical meetings secured
  • Opportunity movement
  • Forecast accuracy
  • Quality of follow-ups
  • Accuracy of sales reports

  • Access to significant industrial markets
  • Technical and operational support
