Our client is seeking an experienced and commercially focused

Technical Buyer to join their Procurement team in Durban. The successful candidate will be responsible for sourcing technical equipment, engineering components, maintenance spares, and production materials while ensuring cost-effective procurement, supplier performance, and uninterrupted operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Source and procure engineering components, mechanical and electrical parts, production consumables, and maintenance spares.
  • Obtain supplier quotations, negotiate pricing, lead times, and commercial terms.
  • Create and process purchase orders while ensuring accuracy and compliance with company procedures.
  • Monitor supplier performance, delivery schedules, and quality standards.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Maintenance, Production, and Stores departments to ensure material availability.
  • Monitor inventory levels and ensure critical stock items are replenished timeously.
  • Resolve supplier delivery issues, pricing discrepancies, and quality concerns.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and supplier consolidation.
  • Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies and governance requirements.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier databases, and procurement reports.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives within the procurement function.

Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3–5 years' experience as a Technical Buyer within a manufacturing, engineering, industrial, FMCG, or production environment.
  • Strong knowledge of technical components, engineering spares, maintenance equipment, and industrial consumables.
  • Experience negotiating with local and international suppliers.
  • Sound understanding of procurement processes and inventory management.
  • Experience working on ERP systems such as SAP, Syspro, Sage, Oracle, or similar.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Valid driver's licence and own reliable transport.
