To ensure the safe operation of all electrical equipment, carry out planned maintenance and attend to breakdowns effeciently in order to maintain optimum availability of the 12 Marine vessels.Position Outputs

  • Maintain Equipment in accordance with preventative maintenance schedules to ensure optimum tug availability
  • Manage on board fault diagnosis and repairs
  • Manage operation of plant and auxiliary equipment in accordance with sound marine engineering standards and practices
  • Conduct checks of plant and equipment including operational surveillance whilst craft is underway
  • Manage periodic lay/overhaul of plant and equipment in conjunction with Marine Technical Manager.
  • Manage and allocate resources including tools, power tools, spares
  • Train subordinates, mentorship and training of trainee chief engineers
  • Ensure a safe working environment and the implementation of safe working practices in terms of company policies and legislative requirements.
  • Ensure that all legislative, regulatory and company requirements and procedures complied with in respect of the marine engineering department on board the tug.
  • Attend to unplanned breakdowns.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of all engine room machinery.
  • Maintain equipment on tug according to Transnet’s code 29 guideline.
  • Enforcing TRANSNET environmental policies and standards.
  • Inculcating TRANSNETS values.
  • Project management.
  • Management Information: To provide Statistical data, inspections and audits for sound decision-making, elimination of deviations from planned processes, respectively.
  • Plan, implement and oversee crew’s safety.

Qualifications and ExperienceCertificate of competency as:

  • Officer in Charge of Engineering Watch OR
  • Designated Duty Engineer OR

Chief Eng Officer (<1500 kW Port Operations) Added Advantage:
