Workshop Technician

We are looking for an experienced Workshop Technician to join our growing workshop team. This role is ideal for a technically strong individual with extensive experience working on earthmoving and underground mining equipment, who takes pride in delivering high-quality workmanship and maintaining the highest safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced diagnostics, fault finding and repairs on earthmoving and underground mining equipment.
  • Carry out major component overhauls, including diesel engine rebuilds, transmissions, differentials, torque converters and hydraulic systems.
  • Diagnose and repair hydraulic, electrical, powertrain and mechanical failures.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance, servicing and machine inspections.
  • Complete major machine rebuilds to OEM standards.
  • Read and interpret technical manuals, hydraulic schematics and electrical diagrams.
  • Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.
  • Accurately complete job cards, inspection reports and service documentation.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior technicians and apprentices.
  • Identify additional repair requirements and communicate these effectively to the Workshop Supervisor.
  • Maintain workshop tools, equipment and housekeeping in accordance with company standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety and environmental regulations.

Minimum Requirements

  • Qualified Diesel Mechanic, Earthmoving Mechanic or Red Seal Trade Test.
  • Minimum 5 years' post-trade experience in a senior workshop technician role.
  • Extensive experience working on earthmoving and underground mining machinery.
  • Diesel engine diagnostics and complete engine rebuild
  • Hydraulic systems
  • Powertrain components
  • Electrical fault finding
  • Mechanical repairs and major overhauls
  • Experience working on OEM equipment such as Sany, Caterpillar, Komatsu, Bell, Volvo, Hitachi, Liebherr, Sandvik, Epiroc, Atlas Copco or similar.
  • Ability to use OEM diagnostic software will be advantageous.
  • Valid Code 08/B driver's licence (Code 10/14 advantageous).
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
