Junior AI Automation Developer
Olive Tree Consulting Group
Olive Tree Consulting is looking for a Junior AI Automation Developer to support our team as we assist a major South African retail group during a period of significant expansion. We need someone who can help us build simple, effective tools that take the manual effort out of routine management tasks. This is a full-time, fully remote position where you will focus on making administrative workflows more predictable and less dependent on human memory.
About the Role
This position exists to bridge the gap between our management advice and the technical tools our clients use to stay organized. At Olive Tree, we focus on structural habits and clear ownership. For the retail group expansion, the sheer volume of coordination requires automated checks to ensure that decisions are captured and responsibilities remain clear. You will work alongside our consultants to turn their process maps into small, functional automations that make the client's day-to-day work easier to lead. This is not about building complex software for its own sake: it is about creating the smallest possible digital record to support a quiet management pattern.
What You Will Do
- Build simple scripts to automate the gathering of meeting notes and decision logs into central registries.
- Set up automated triggers that notify owners when a task has stalled or needs a status update.
- Connect different documentation and project tools so that information flows naturally without manual entry.
- Experiment with AI tools that can summarize long project discussions into clear, actionable bullet points.
- Review existing client workflows to spot where manual data entry can be replaced by a simple, reliable script.
- Maintain internal documentation for every automation you build so that the client can manage the system independently.
- Collaborate with consultants to ensure the technology follows the management logic rather than complicating it.
- Test and refine automation sequences to ensure they are robust and do not add friction to the user experience.
What We Are Looking For
- A clear and logical approach to solving problems without over-complicating the solution.
- Someone who values simplicity and would rather build a small, reliable tool than a complex, fragile one.
- The ability to write technical documentation that a non-technical manager can understand and follow.
- Patience for testing and debugging until a process is truly smooth and requires no manual intervention.
- Strong attention to detail, specifically regarding how information is categorized and moved between systems.
- A quiet focus on the work itself and a genuine interest in seeing teams work more effectively.
- Comfortable working in a remote setting and managing your own schedule to meet project deadlines.
Helpful Background
- Basic proficiency in scripting languages like Python or JavaScript.
- Familiarity with automation platforms such as Zapier, Make, or Power Automate.
- Some exposure to using AI application programming interfaces for structured data tasks.
- Experience with personal projects or university coursework involving basic API integrations.
- An interest in how organizations function and how people coordinate work at scale.
- A background in computer science, information systems, or a related field of study.
What We Offer
This is a permanent, full-time position that is performed entirely remotely. We offer a competitive salary that is attractive for an entry-level role in the current market. You will have the opportunity to work on a high-stakes project for a large retail group while learning from experienced consultants who value practical logic over theory. Our firm prioritizes quiet management and clear writing, meaning we avoid unnecessary meetings and focus on getting the work done efficiently. You will be part of a team that respects your focus and encourages you to build tools that have a direct, visible impact on how a business operates.
About Olive Tree
Olive Tree Consulting Group is a focused advisory practice that helps leadership teams solve recurring management issues. We typically work on the space between strategy and daily execution. A team can have very capable people and still find that decisions keep reopening, priorities stall, or responsibility remains unclear. These are rarely personality problems: they are structural habits that have not kept up with the company's growth.
We favor practical changes over large-scale transformation programs. Our work involves looking at how decisions are made, how meetings are run, and how ownership is recorded. We prefer useful written notes and clear ownership over polished presentations and vague alignment. Good advisory work should make things plainer and leave the team with a rhythm they can continue on their own.
The firm is built on the principle that memory is not a management system. We help teams create the smallest possible written record to support their work so that important follow-up does not depend on who was in the room or who has the best memory. The goal is a quieter management pattern that makes the existing work easier to lead.
