Project Management Assistant

Olive Tree Consulting Group

Olive Tree Consulting is currently supporting a partner in the South African financial sector to help them refine their management habits and decision-making processes. We are looking for a Project Management Assistant to help keep this engagement organized and focused. This is a full-time, fully remote position where you will work closely with our advisors to ensure that project goals stay on track and that every meeting results in clear, actionable steps.

About the Role

In this role, you act as the logistical anchor for our project teams. When we work with clients, we focus on identifying where decisions get stuck and where priorities stall. Your job is to ensure that every conversation leads to a clear record of who is doing what. You help us move away from vague alignment and toward specific, written commitments. This is an entry level position designed for someone who enjoys bringing order to complex situations and wants to learn how management consulting works in practice. Because we work entirely remotely, your ability to communicate clearly in writing will be your most important tool.

What You Will Do

  • Participate in project meetings and capture precise notes that highlight decisions, disagreements, and next steps.
  • Update project logs to ensure that deadlines and ownership are clearly defined for both our team and the client.
  • Organize shared documentation so that the history of a project is easy for anyone to follow at any time.
  • Assist our advisors with the preparation of brief, plain English summary reports that skip the jargon and get straight to the point.
  • Monitor the daily and weekly rhythm of the project to ensure follow up happens without needing constant reminders.
  • Help map out handoffs between different departments within the client organization to see where work typically slows down.
  • Maintain a clear list of open questions and unresolved issues to ensure nothing falls through the cracks.

What We Are Looking For

  • Strong writing skills with the ability to summarize complex discussions into simple, readable points.
  • A natural tendency to be organized and a preference for having a structured plan for the day.
  • Genuine curiosity about how businesses function and why teams often find it difficult to get things done.
  • Comfort working in a fully remote environment where you manage your own schedule and stay productive without direct supervision.
  • The ability to stay calm and focused when project priorities shift or new information arrives.
  • A belief that simple, written records are more useful than long, complicated presentations or decorative slides.

Helpful Background

  • Basic familiarity with project coordination or administration from university projects, internships, or part time work.
  • An interest in the financial sector or professional advisory services.
  • Experience using standard digital tools like shared documents, spreadsheets, and task trackers to manage work.
  • A background in business, communications, or a related field that emphasizes clear thinking and writing.
  • A willingness to learn our specific method of quiet management and practical documentation.

What We Offer

We provide a work environment that values clarity and quiet focus over corporate noise. This is a paid position with competitive compensation for an entry level role in the consulting market. You will have the opportunity to work fully remote, giving you the flexibility to manage your professional life from wherever you are most productive. You will receive direct mentorship from experienced advisors and gain exposure to high level management challenges in the financial sector. Our goal is to help you build a solid foundation in project management while contributing to work that makes a practical difference for our clients.

About Olive Tree

Olive Tree Consulting Group is a focused advisory practice that helps leadership teams solve recurring management issues. We typically work on the space between strategy and daily execution. A team can have very capable people and still find that decisions keep reopening, priorities stall, or responsibility remains unclear. These are rarely personality problems: they are structural habits that have not kept up with the company growth.

We favor practical changes over large scale transformation programs. Our work involves looking at how decisions are made, how meetings are run, and how ownership is recorded. We prefer useful written notes and clear ownership over polished presentations and vague alignment. Good advisory work should make things plainer and leave the team with a rhythm they can continue on their own.

The firm is built on the principle that memory is not a management system. We help teams create the smallest possible written record to support their work so that important follow up does not depend on who was in the room or who has the best memory. The goal is a quieter management pattern that makes the existing work easier to lead.
