Associate Data Analyst

Olive Tree Consulting Group

Remote

We are looking for an Associate Data Analyst to support our advisory team as we work with a major South African financial client. This role is built for someone who enjoys organizing information to help teams see their own habits more clearly. As a fully remote position, you will be essential in helping us track how management decisions are made and where organizational friction occurs.

About the Role

The Associate Data Analyst helps us move away from gut feelings and toward evidence based management. In our work with large financial organizations, we often encounter teams that feel stuck or slow. Your job is to help us measure why that is happening. You will organize information about how meetings are conducted, how often decisions are revisited, and where projects tend to stall. This role is not just about numbers: it is about using data to tell the story of how a company actually functions day to day. You will support our consultants by providing the facts they need to suggest practical changes to a leadership team.

What You Will Do

  • Clean and organize datasets related to team performance and project timelines.
  • Create simple, readable charts and summaries for our consultants to share with client leadership.
  • Monitor the rhythm of management meetings to identify where time is being lost or where decisions are not being recorded.
  • Help maintain our internal databases to ensure we have a reliable history of the changes we implement.
  • Draft clear, plain English summaries of what the data suggests about current client habits.
  • Collaborate with the advisory team via digital tools to ensure data insights are integrated into our weekly updates.
  • Ensure that every report we produce is accurate and easy for a person without a technical background to understand.

What We Are Looking For

  • A high level of curiosity about how organizations work and why people make the decisions they do.
  • Extreme attention to detail, especially when checking for errors in spreadsheets or documents.
  • The ability to write clearly without using corporate jargon or overly complex language.
  • A calm approach to tasks that involve sorting through messy or disorganized information.
  • A preference for simple solutions over complex systems that are hard to maintain.
  • The ability to manage your own schedule and stay productive in a fully remote setting.
  • A collaborative spirit that values helping the team succeed over individual recognition.

Helpful Background

  • Basic familiarity with spreadsheet tools like Excel or Google Sheets, including common formulas and pivot tables.
  • Experience with data visualization or a willingness to learn how to make clean, effective charts.
  • A background in business, economics, social sciences, or any field that requires logical analysis.
  • Previous experience with academic research or personal projects that involved collecting and interpreting information.
  • Strong written communication skills, particularly the ability to explain a trend in one or two short sentences.
  • An understanding of basic statistical concepts like averages, medians, and trends.

What We Offer

This is a full time, permanent position that is entirely remote. You will have the flexibility to work from your preferred environment while staying connected to a supportive team through regular digital check ins. We provide competitive pay that is attractive for an entry level role in this market. You will get to see the inner workings of a major financial client and learn how high level management decisions are actually made. Our culture is one of quiet productivity, where we value your results and your clear thinking more than the number of hours you spend in a virtual meeting.

About Olive Tree

Olive Tree Consulting Group is a focused advisory practice that helps leadership teams solve recurring management issues. We typically work on the space between strategy and daily execution. A team can have very capable people and still find that decisions keep reopening, priorities stall, or responsibility remains unclear. These are rarely personality problems: they are structural habits that have not kept up with the company's growth.

We favor practical changes over large scale transformation programs. Our work involves looking at how decisions are made, how meetings are run, and how ownership is recorded. We prefer useful written notes and clear ownership over polished presentations and vague alignment. Good advisory work should make things plainer and leave the team with a rhythm they can continue on their own.

The firm is built on the principle that memory is not a management system. We help teams create the smallest possible written record to support their work so that important follow up does not depend on who was in the room or who has the best memory. The goal is a quieter management pattern that makes the existing work easier to lead.
