Junior CSS Developer
Olive Tree Consulting Group
Remote
Olive Tree Consulting is looking for a Junior CSS Developer to join our remote technical team. In this role, you will support our work with a major South African financial services firm, helping to translate management clarity into digital reality. This is an entry level position focused on the visual layer of the tools we build to help teams stay organized. You will work within a fully remote structure that values deep work and clear documentation over constant meetings.
About the Role
Olive Tree is not a typical technology shop: we are an advisory practice. We help leadership teams fix the structural habits that slow them down. Often, this work involves creating custom internal tools, dashboards, or documentation portals that make management work easier to hold. As a Junior CSS Developer, your primary responsibility is to ensure these tools are clean, accessible, and visually consistent. You will work closely with our designers and lead developers to turn conceptual layouts into working interfaces. This position is permanent and full time, offering you the chance to grow your technical skills while learning how large organizations function.
What You Will Do
- Translate design mockups and wireframes into clean, functional CSS and HTML.
- Maintain and update internal style guides for our project dashboards to ensure visual consistency.
- Debug visual issues across different web browsers to ensure a reliable experience for the client.
- Help refactor existing stylesheets to improve code readability and maintainability.
- Collaborate with the broader team to understand how our South African financial client interacts with their internal tools.
- Document the choices you make in your code so that other developers can follow your logic easily.
- Participate in peer code reviews to learn best practices and offer a fresh perspective on visual implementation.
- Assist in building responsive layouts that function well on various screen sizes and devices.
What We Are Looking For
- A strong eye for detail and a preference for clean, simple, and functional design.
- The ability to take constructive feedback and iterate on your work until it meets the standard.
- A habit of writing clear comments and documentation for your code, favoring clarity over complexity.
- Careful management of your own time and priorities in a remote setting.
- Resilience and patience when troubleshooting small visual glitches or browser inconsistencies.
- An interest in how digital tools can help people manage their daily work more effectively.
- The discipline to follow established coding standards while knowing when to suggest a practical improvement.
Helpful Background
- Basic proficiency in HTML5 and CSS3, including an understanding of modern layout techniques.
- Exposure to CSS preprocessors like Sass or Less through personal projects or studies.
- Familiarity with version control systems like Git for managing code changes.
- A basic understanding of responsive design principles and mobile first development.
- Any experience with CSS frameworks such as Bootstrap or Tailwind is useful but not required.
- An interest in web accessibility and how to make digital tools usable for a diverse group of people.
- Previous coursework or independent projects that demonstrate your coding style and problem solving approach.
What We Offer
This is a full time, permanent position within a remote first culture. You will have the flexibility to work from your preferred space while remaining part of a focused team. The position is paid, and we provide a competitive salary for this entry level role in the current market. We offer a calm environment where we value quiet concentration and clear ownership of tasks. You will receive mentorship from experienced developers who value teaching as much as building, and you will gain exposure to high level advisory work for a large financial organization. We believe in providing the space you need to learn and contribute without the friction of typical corporate bureaucracy.
About Olive Tree
Olive Tree Consulting Group is a focused advisory practice that helps leadership teams solve recurring management issues. We typically work on the space between strategy and daily execution. A team can have very capable people and still find that decisions keep reopening, priorities stall, or responsibility remains unclear. These are rarely personality problems; they are structural habits that have not kept up with the company's growth.
We favor practical changes over large scale transformation programs. Our work involves looking at how decisions are made, how meetings are run, and how ownership is recorded. We prefer useful written notes and clear ownership over polished presentations and vague alignment. Good advisory work should make things plainer and leave the team with a rhythm they can continue on their own.
The firm is built on the principle that memory is not a management system. We help teams create the smallest possible written record to support their work so that important follow up does not depend on who was in the room or who has the best memory. The goal is a quieter management pattern that makes the existing work easier to lead.
