OHS Officer
Fortuna Foods (Pty) Ltd
Louwlardia, Centurion | Full-time | On-site 40-hours a week
Fortuna Foods is a growing food manufacturer with 120 staff and a production floor that never stands still. We're looking for an OHS Officer who can own health, safety, and risk end-to-end — not a clipboard-carrier, but someone who builds systems, gets buy-in on the floor, and stands confidently in front of an auditor or the board.
What you'll own
Risk & compliance — Risk assessments, up-to-date risk registers, and mitigation plans that actually get implemented. Full compliance with the OHS Act and related legislation, tracking regulatory changes, and preparing for audits and inspections.
Safety culture on the floor — Monthly SHE Rep meetings, toolbox talks, drills, workshops, and refresher training. Fitness-for-work and breathalyser controls. Contractor management.
Chemical, PPE & hazardous substance management — Plus occupational health and hygiene, and environmental management (permits, safe disposal).
Food safety integration — Aligning SHE with our food safety systems so the two work as one programme, not two sets of paperwork.
Incidents, COIDA & insurance — Incident investigation and reporting, COIDA/WCL administration, and managing the company's insurance portfolio and claims.
Reporting — Quarterly health, safety, and risk reports to senior management and the board, with real insight into the risk profile — not just stats.
What you'll need
- Diploma or degree in Safety Management, Environmental Health, or related field
- SAMTRAC or equivalent SHE qualification
- 3+ years' OHS experience
- Working knowledge of the OHS Act, COIDA, and hazardous substance regulations
- Incident investigation and risk assessment competence
- The communication skills to move between the production floor, contractors, regulators, and the boardroom
Why Fortuna
You'll be the safety authority in the business, reporting directly to executive management, with the mandate to build and improve rather than just maintain. Small enough that your work is visible; busy enough that it matters every day.
