ROLE OVERVIEW
The Cook is responsible for planning, preparing, and serving nutritious, high-quality meals for the vessel’s crew while ensuring compliance with all food safety, hygiene, and health standards. The role involves maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organised galley, managing food supplies and inventory, and ensuring adequate provisioning for each voyage to support the wellbeing and operational needs of the crew.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Preparing daily menus, accommodating dietary requirements and cooking meals as scheduled
Complying with food safety and maritime regulations
Monitoring stock levels, rotating provisions and placing orders as required
Completing meal logs, stock records and maintaining cleaning schedules
Communicating mealtimes and addressing requests or concerns
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- Grade 10 or equivalent
- SAMSA Certificate of Proficiency: Efficient Cook
- Minimum 2 – 4 years’ experience preparing meals onboard on vessels
- Knowledge of hygiene and food safety standards relevant to vessels
- Knowledge and understanding of basic nutrition and portion control
