Data Reporting Assistant
Olive Tree Consulting Group
Remote
We are looking for a Data Reporting Assistant to join our team in a permanent, full time capacity. This role is fully remote and focuses on supporting a major financial services group based in Johannesburg as they work to improve their internal management habits. You will be responsible for turning complex updates into simple, readable records that help the leadership team stay on track without getting lost in unnecessary detail.
About the role
At Olive Tree Consulting, we help organizations bridge the gap between their high level strategies and their daily execution. This position exists because even the most capable teams can struggle with consistency: decisions get forgotten, priorities shift without notice, and reporting becomes a chore rather than a tool. You will work alongside our advisors to ensure that the data we collect from the client is organized, accurate, and useful.
Because this is a fully remote role, you will be an essential link in our internal communications. You will help us maintain a clear record of what has been decided and what needs to happen next. Your work ensures that the client does not have to rely on memory to manage their operations, providing them with a quiet, reliable rhythm of information instead.
What you will do
- Update and maintain internal dashboards that track project milestones and the progress of specific management tasks.
- Attend remote client meetings to capture clear, concise notes that focus on decisions made and ownership assigned.
- Review data sets provided by the financial services group to identify where processes might be slowing down or where records are incomplete.
- Draft weekly status reports that prioritize clarity and brevity over long, complex explanations.
- Organize digital folders and decision logs to ensure they are easily accessible for both our team and the client.
- Identify discrepancies in reporting and work with the lead advisors to correct them before they impact project timelines.
- Prepare simple charts and tables for review sessions to make project data easy to understand at a glance.
- Support the general administrative rhythm of the engagement by tracking follow up actions and deadlines.
What we are looking for
- A natural ability to write in plain, direct English without using corporate jargon or unnecessary filler.
- A high level of comfort working with numbers and the patience to ensure that every spreadsheet entry is correct.
- Strong organizational habits and the ability to manage your own schedule while working from home.
- A calm approach to problem solving and the ability to stay focused when dealing with large amounts of information.
- Curiosity about how large organizations function and a genuine interest in making work easier for others.
- Excellent listening skills, with the ability to pull the most important points out of a long discussion.
Helpful background
- Basic familiarity with spreadsheet tools like Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, including the use of basic formulas.
- Experience in a role or academic setting where you were responsible for keeping records or coordinating group activities.
- A background in business, communications, or a technical field that required high attention to detail.
- An interest in learning how to use data visualization tools to present information more clearly.
- Previous experience working or studying in a remote setting is a plus but not a requirement.
What we offer
This is a paid position, and the salary is competitive for an entry level role in this market. We provide a fully remote work environment that values quiet focus and quality of output over hours spent in meetings. You will have the opportunity to learn directly from experienced advisors while working on a significant engagement for a major financial services group. We believe in providing the tools you need to succeed and a predictable rhythm that respects your life outside of work.
About Olive Tree
Olive Tree Consulting Group is a focused advisory practice that helps leadership teams solve recurring management issues. We typically work on the space between strategy and daily execution. A team can have very capable people and still find that decisions keep reopening, priorities stall, or responsibility remains unclear. These are rarely personality problems: they are structural habits that have not kept up with the company growth. We favor practical changes over large scale transformation programs. Our work involves looking at how decisions are made, how meetings are run, and how ownership is recorded. We prefer useful written notes and clear ownership over polished presentations and vague alignment. Good advisory work should make things plainer and leave the team with a rhythm they can continue on their own. The firm is built on the principle that memory is not a management system. We help teams create the smallest possible written record to support their work so that important follow up does not depend on who was in the room or who has the best memory. The goal is a quieter management pattern that makes the existing work easier to lead.
