Purpose of the role

This position is responsible for coordinating Health and Safety programmes for Corporate Casas to ensure that implemented processes are effectively managed and maintained. It further oversees all activities necessary to ensure continual compliance with Health and Safety legal and regulatory requirements at Nando’s Corporate Restaurants and to ensure legislative updates are effectively implemented.

Position Description

OHS Implementation and Maintenance

Maintain implemented OHS programmes to ensure sustainable compliance with statutory legal requirements.

Continually monitor the level of awareness, knowledge and preparedness across the organisation to create a culture that prioritises Health and Safety compliance

Maintain accurate and up-to-date OHS documentation and submit required reports to relevant stakeholders.

Legal Compliance

Enforce and create awareness of OHS compliance with all legal requirements.

Coordinate and manage all legal appointments as per the OHSACT and related regulations.

Ensure that Occupational Hygiene surveys are conducted at the required frequency and reports and action plans are consolidated and shared with relevant parties

Ensure that agreed action plans are implemented and the effectiveness thereof is monitored

Coordinate and facilitate external and internal OHS training arrangements to ensure that required legal training is always up-to-date and related certificates are valid at all times.

Ensure that NCF meetings are conducted quarterly and that OHS matters are discussed and minutes are recorded and stored on relevant location on the system.

Monitor that Health and Safety-related actions agreed in these meetings are implemented.

Risk and Hazard Management

Facilitate the review of internal Health and Safety policies and practices to ensure they are current and appropriate.

Conduct hazard and risk assessments and ensure they are comprehensive and adequately reflect all potential hazards related to casa operations, environment, and legislative review frequency is met.

Ensure risk assessments are reviewed in line with legislative requirements and when the need arises and mitigation measures are implemented.

Ensure hazards identified in occupational hygiene surveys are incorporated in risk assessments.

Maintain a health and safety legal register to ensure visibility of applicable regulations to Casa operations and ensure it is reviewed and updated as the need arises

Inspections, Audits, and Monitoring:

Keep track of OHS non-conformances raised in Aspirata audits and Nando’s Evaluations

Assist casas in responding to outcomes of inspections by statutory authorities i.e., Department of Labour inspections.

Ensure that any contravention notices that casas are not equipped to handle are escalated and drive their closure.

Ensure that corrective and preventative actions are implemented.

Highlight and escalate concerning non-conformance trends from audits and facilitate investigations to identify root causes and corrective action plans.

Incident and Injury Management

Support the CASAs with the investigation process, including injury reporting, root cause analysis, and documentation.

Ensure that incidents are reported and investigated within the prescribed legal timeframes and company policies.

Drive corrective actions and monitor their implementation and effectiveness.

Assist restaurants in the investigation of all incidents, Near Misses, and First Aid cases) and ensure proper records are completed and submitted.

Assist in the implementation of corrective actions as it relates to the incident and ensure “lessons learned” are communicated throughout the Company and are incorporated into the program, where necessary

Contractor and Access Control Compliance

Ensure that contractor management processes are put in place for all contractors conducting maintenance work in casas.

Ensure that incidents pertaining to contractors are reported and handled in line with regulatory requirements.

Create awareness at casas regarding contractor management requirements and enforce compliance.

Minimum Education

National Diploma: Health and Safety Field, SAMTRAC, or similar Health and Safety Qualification

OHS Regulation and legislation requirements knowledge

Adequate knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety application

Advantageous

First Aid Training

Minimum Experience;

1-2 years Health and Safety knowledge

2-5 years Restaurant operations
