Web Development Internship

Olive Tree Consulting Group

We are seeking a Web Development Intern to join our team as we support a major financial services group based in Johannesburg. This role is focused on building and maintaining the digital tools that help our clients turn strategy into concrete action. As a fully remote position, you will work from your own space to ensure our advisory work is supported by clear, functional, and accessible web platforms.

About the Role

The Web Development Internship exists to bridge the gap between our management advice and the digital records our clients use every day. We believe that good management requires a clear written record, and your role is to help us build the sites and portals where that record lives. You will assist in creating simple, high-quality web environments that make it easy for leadership teams to track their decisions and progress. This is not about creating complex software systems, but about using web technology to make organizational information plainer and easier to navigate. You will work closely with our consultants to translate management rhythms into structured digital formats.

What You Will Do

  • Build and update static landing pages that document client processes and meeting rhythms.
  • Maintain and organize internal wikis and knowledge bases used for project documentation.
  • Ensure that all client portals are easy to navigate and that links and assets are correctly placed.
  • Collaborate with the consulting team to turn written notes and strategy documents into structured web content.
  • Troubleshoot basic layout or display issues across different browsers to ensure a consistent experience.
  • Assist in customizing low-code or no-code tools to fit the specific needs of our client engagements.
  • Help refine our internal templates to improve readability and visual clarity for all users.
  • Maintain a logical file structure and backup system for all web-related assets and project folders.

What We Are Looking For

  • A strong preference for simplicity and clarity in design rather than unnecessary complexity.
  • High attention to detail, specifically regarding typography, spacing, and logical information flow.
  • A calm and methodical approach to troubleshooting and fixing technical issues.
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to explain technical choices to team members who are not developers.
  • Reliability in a fully remote setting, including the ability to manage your own tasks and meet agreed-upon timelines.
  • An interest in how organizations function and a desire to make work easier for others through better tools.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to the specific ways we document management habits.

Helpful Background

  • Basic proficiency in HTML and CSS is required for this role.
  • Familiarity with JavaScript or experience working with static site generators is a plus.
  • Previous experience building simple websites, whether for school projects, personal interests, or past work.
  • Basic understanding of user experience principles, especially as they relate to readability and simple navigation.
  • Comfortable using version control systems like Git or working within content management platforms.
  • An interest in the financial services sector or management consulting would be beneficial.

What We Offer

This is a paid internship, and the compensation is competitive for the current market and the requirements of the role. You will work in a fully remote environment, allowing you to manage your work day without the need for commuting or a physical office. We offer a professional atmosphere where focused work is valued over a high volume of meetings. You will gain direct experience in how high-level advisory work is delivered to large institutions and how technical tools can solve real-world management friction. We prioritize clear communication and a sustainable work rhythm for everyone on the team.

About Olive Tree

Olive Tree Consulting Group is a focused advisory practice that helps leadership teams solve recurring management issues. We typically work on the space between strategy and daily execution. A team can have very capable people and still find that decisions keep reopening, priorities stall, or responsibility remains unclear. These are rarely personality problems; they are structural habits that have not kept up with the company's growth. We favor practical changes over large-scale transformation programs. Our work involves looking at how decisions are made, how meetings are run, and how ownership is recorded. We prefer useful written notes and clear ownership over polished presentations and vague alignment. Good advisory work should make things plainer and leave the team with a rhythm they can continue on their own. The firm is built on the principle that memory is not a management system. We help teams create the smallest possible written record to support their work so that important follow-up does not depend on who was in the room or who has the best memory. The goal is a quieter management pattern that makes the existing work easier to lead.
