Checker Operator - Epping

Overall Responsibility
The key purpose of this role is to check, measure, load, unload, and stack materials safely and efficiently while maintaining governance and customer service standards.
Focus Area 1: Maintain safe, healthy and risk-free working environment
- Adhere to SHP Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) standards in all daily activities.
- Participate in safety observations, follow established safety processes, and report or escalate identified gaps.
- Implement and sustain 5S standards in the designated work area, maintaining workplace organization and discipline.
- Always adhere to safe working practices
- Follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs), risk assessments, and safe work instructions.
- Conduct pre-task safety checks before starting equipment or processes
- Implement and adhere to cleaning schedules
- Comply with and HACCP or IS022000 requirements
- Apply basic hygiene and sanitation and adhere to food safety related rules and activities as per factory instructions
- Perform Food Safety and Quality related activities as part of the FSMS and QC functions
Focus Area 2: Manufacturing Excellence culture
- Consistently follows Manufacturing Excellence (ME) pillar tools and standardized work processes.
- Adhere to structured shift handover requirements to ensure operational continuity and information accuracy.
- Maintain the Operator Workstation/area concept throughout the shift
- Perform assigned Autonomous Maintenance tasks in accordance with established standards.
- Take responsibility for basic equipment condition, inspection, cleaning, and lubrication activities.
- Report equipment abnormalities and support restoration to basic conditions.
- Support the continuous improvement culture
- Drive manufacturing excellence pillars on the shopfloor
Focus Area 3: Operations
- Effective stock quality management
- Effective management and care of the physical appearance forklifts
- Conduct pre-trip inspections prior to the start of each shift using the forklift inspection checklist
- Ensure that the forklift is operated and maintained in optimal condition
- Ensure that fuel/ battery level and forklift fluids are at accepted operating levels
- Adherence to the health, safety and environmental standards
- Adhere to department of Labor stacking exemptions
- Weigh out or measure and issue materials to production teams
- Appropriate personal protective equipment used as designated by site safety standards
- Warehouse stock age standards maintained by ensuring that stock rotation principles are applied
- Ensure when picking materials or products it according to the SOP in process
- Ensures quality control through checking of packaging materials on warehouse floor and prior to loading
- Participation in handover process before and after every shift
- Accurate daily stock count to be performed
- Maintain clear and effective communication with Inventory Supervisor, Inventory Clerks and Shift Supervisors
- Accurate checking, loading and unloading of trucks
- Conversant with relevant business information, policies, processes and procedures
- Schedules and other monthly KPI’s will be established to maximize the effectiveness of this support.
- Required to load and offload at SHP warehouses
- Pick finish goods or production material according to the standard operating procedures in place
Focus Area 4: Reporting
- Handover concerns or queries to the Shift Supervisor
- Report all non-compliance issues to incoming shift supervisor and your current shift supervisor
Minimum Requirements
- Matric or Grade 12 equivalent
- Minimum of 1 years' experience within the food and beverage industry
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience operating a forklift (advantageous)
- Proficiency in inventory management software
- Proficiency in using handheld devices will be considered an added advantage
