Engineer Global operations

Derivco

We’re looking for a hands‑on Engineer: Global Operations who thrives in high‑availability, mission‑critical environments and enjoys being on the front line of keeping large‑scale systems stable, resilient, and performing at their best.

This is a production‑focused, operations‑driven role where you’ll play a critical part in 24/7 global operations, incident response, and continuous operational improvement. You’ll work closely with engineering teams, leverage AI‑assisted tooling, and take ownership of incidents end‑to‑end — helping ensure our platforms remain reliable in fast‑moving, regulated environments.

If you enjoy problem‑solving under pressure, improving operational processes, and making a direct impact on system stability and customer confidence, this role is for you.

Location: Durban, KwaZulu‑Natal, South Africa OR Douglas, Isle of Man (On‑site)

What You’ll Do

  • Participate in 24/7 shift rotations, owning alert acknowledgement, triage, prioritisation, and investigation of production incidents
  • Manage incidents end‑to‑end, resolving issues within established procedures and escalating appropriately when specialist input is required
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for complex incidents, collaborating with engineering teams to implement fixes and prevent recurrence
  • Lead and participate in post‑incident reviews, driving learning, documentation, and continuous operational improvement
  • Assess operational readiness for new features, releases, and system changes, identifying risks and recommending readiness actions
  • Monitor live platforms to ensure availability, reliability, and performance across global environments
  • Reduce alert noise and operational toil by identifying inefficiencies and driving process and workflow improvements
  • Evaluate and recommend operational tools and platforms, considering reliability, supportability, and long‑term value
  • Apply and improve AI‑assisted operational decision‑making, supporting automation while maintaining appropriate human oversight
  • Create and maintain high‑quality incident documentation, runbooks, and operational knowledge bases
  • Mentor and support junior team members, sharing operational knowledge and best practices
  • This role is based either in Durban (South Africa) or Douglas (Isle of Man) . Candidates must be based in, or able to work from, one of these locations.

What We’re Looking For

  • 2–4 years’ experience in IT operations, global operations, production support, or systems administration
  • A relevant diploma or degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience
  • Strong understanding of production systems, application architecture, and infrastructure components
  • Solid experience with incident management, troubleshooting, escalation, and root cause analysis
  • Confidence working in 24/7 operational environments with live, customer‑facing systems
  • Experience contributing to post‑incident reviews and driving process improvements
  • Exposure to automation and AI‑assisted operational tools (or strong interest in developing this skillset)
  • Ability to balance rapid response with structured problem‑solving and long‑term prevention
  • Clear communicator who remains calm, structured, and decisive under pressure
  • A collaborative team player who enjoys sharing knowledge and building team capability

Why Join Us?

  • Play a critical role in global, always‑on platforms that must remain stable and reliable
  • Gain hands‑on experience in large‑scale incident management and production operations
  • Work with modern tooling, automation, and AI‑assisted operational practices
  • Make a direct impact on system availability, customer trust, and business continuity
  • Be part of a team that values learning from incidents, continuous improvement, and operational excellence
  • Grow your career in an environment that encourages ownership, accountability, and technical depth

If you enjoy working whereevery decision matters, thrive in high‑impact operational roles, and want to help shape the future of global operations, we’d love to hear from you.
