Safety Officer - Petrochemical / Oil & Gas Shutdown

CSG Resourcing is urgently seeking an experienced Safety Officer with strong Petrochemical / Oil & Gas experience to join a major shutdown project at Sasol Secunda.
The successful candidate must have proven experience working in a petrochemical, oil & gas, or similar high-risk industrial environment, preferably on shutdown and maintenance projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety requirements, Sasol standards, site procedures, and applicable legislation.

Only candidates currently residing in Secunda and the surrounding local area will be considered and shortlisted.
Candidates must have relevant Petrochemical / Oil & Gas experience and be able to travel to and from the Sasol Secunda site independently.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and enforce health and safety requirements throughout the shutdown.
- Conduct daily site safety inspections and identify potential hazards.
- Ensure compliance with Sasol safety standards and petrochemical site procedures.
- Conduct toolbox talks, safety briefings, and safety awareness sessions.
- Assist with risk assessments, safe work procedures, and method statements.
- Monitor contractors and employees to ensure safe working practices.
- Report and assist with the investigation of incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
- Maintain accurate safety documentation and inspection records.
- Participate in safety meetings, audits, inspections, and site walkdowns.
- Identify non-compliance and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Promote a strong safety culture throughout the shutdown project.
Minimum Requirements
- Relevant Health & Safety qualification.
- Minimum 3–5 years' Safety Officer experience in the Petrochemical / Oil & Gas industry – essential.
- Proven experience working on Petrochemical / Oil & Gas shutdown and maintenance projects.
- Previous Sasol experience/shutdown experience is highly advantageous.
- Valid SAMTRAC, NEBOSH, or equivalent safety qualification will be advantageous.
- SACPCMP registration – advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and high-risk industrial site requirements.
- Experience with risk assessments, safety files, inspections, toolbox talks, incident reporting, and contractor safety management.
- Strong communication, reporting, and interpersonal skills.
- Computer literate.
- Valid driver's licence – advantageous.
- Must be medically fit to work on a petrochemical site.
- Valid medical fitness certificate – advantageous.
- Valid Sasol induction – advantageous.
