Reporting to: Area Supervisor
Location: Killarney Gardens, Cape Town
Purpose of the role
The cook will be responsible for preparing and cooking food according to recipes and quality standards, maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment, and ensuring food safety and sanitation.
Key Job Roles and Responsibilities
Preperation
- Prepare a variety of foods, such as meats, vegetables or desserts, according to the product recipe and supervisor’s instructions to use in cooking.
- Check quality of ingredients.
- Weight or measure ingredients according to recipe.
- Cut and clean ingredients to prepare for cooking or serving.
- Mix ingredients for dishes/sauces.
- Use manual or electric appliances to clean, peel, slice and trim foods.
- Inform supervisor when equipment is not working properly and when food and supplies are getting low.
Cooking
- Set up workstations with all needed ingredients and cooking equipment.
- Ability to operate machinery.
- Cook food in various utensils, ovens or grillers according to recipe instructions, continuously recording temperature, time and yields.
- Check food while cooking to stir or turn.
- Once cooked, wrap the food, or place in trays ready for assembly.
- Keep a sanitised and orderly environment in the kitchen.
- Keep record of the quantities of food used.
- Report any shortages on completion of recipe.
- Measure consistency.
Housekeeping
- Clean and sanitise work areas, equipment, utensils, dishes.
- Clean food preparation areas.
- Ensure good housekeeping practices in general.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Matric certificate
- Minimum 1 year experience working in a similar environment
- Industrial food preparation and processing equipment
- Cooking production procedures and methods
- Use of kitchen scales following training
- Knowledge of the assembly processes
- Production processes and methods

- Ensure familiarity with and adherence to company policies and procedures.
