Join our I&J Head Office in Woodstock, Cape Town as a HR OFFICER and play a key role in supporting the Human Resources Manager by providing generalist human resources services and advising business units. The role partners with line managers to enhance effectiveness in areas such as Labour Broker Administration, Learning and Development, Employee Wellness, Industrial Relations, Performance Management, Recruitment, and Talent Management.

Key Areas of Impact

HR Administration, Payroll and Benefits

  • Take ownership of day-to-day HR administration and ensure that employee records and documentation are accurate, complete and up to date.
  • Manage payroll and benefit administration, ensuring accurate and timely processing.
  • Conduct regular checks and reconciliations to identify and resolve payroll and HR administration discrepancies.
  • Ensure HR processes and employee changes are processed accurately and within required deadlines.
  • Provide employees and managers with professional and responsive HR support.
  • Identify opportunities to improve HR administration processes and implement practical solutions.

HR Reporting and Compliance

  • Prepare and maintain accurate HR reports and provide relevant information to management.
  • Ensure HR records, processes and documentation comply with company policies and applicable legislation.
  • Maintain job profiles and organisational structures and ensure changes are accurately reflected.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee records.
  • Monitor compliance with BCEA, LRA, OHSA and other applicable employment legislation.

Industrial Relations

  • Provide first-line HR support and guidance to line managers on employee relations matters.
  • Assist with disciplinary, grievance, incapacity and performance-related processes.
  • Ensure all IR documentation and processes are handled consistently, fairly and in accordance with company policy and labour legislation.
  • Build constructive relationships with employees, managers and other stakeholders.
  • Proactively identify potential employee relations issues and escalate matters appropriately.

Performance Management

  • Provide support on the performance management and appraisal process.
  • Support and advise line managers on performance discussions, performance improvement plans and related documentation.
  • Monitor completion of performance processes and ensure documentation is properly maintained.

Recruitment and Onboarding

  • Manage recruitment administration from vacancy approval through to appointment.
  • Coordinate interviews, reference checks, documentation and offers.
  • Ensure recruitment processes align with company policies and Employment Equity requirements.
  • Coordinate effective onboarding and induction for new employees.

Employee Wellness and Engagement

  • Support employee wellness initiatives and identify opportunities to improve employee engagement.
  • Coordinate employee events and initiatives that contribute to a positive working environment.
  • Provide appropriate support and referrals to employees where required.

HR Projects

  • Take ownership of assigned HR projects and ensure deliverables are completed accurately and on time.
  • Support the HR team with HR initiatives and business requirements.
  • Demonstrate initiative in identifying and resolving HR-related issues and improving processes.

What It Takes to Succeed

Experience that set you up for success

  • Minimum 3-5 years HR experience, preferably in a generalist role within the Manufacturing or FMCG industry
  • Proven experience in HR administration and payroll administration
  • Experience dealing with employee relations and disciplinary processes
  • Experience supporting recruitment and onboarding processes
  • Experience working with HR reports, systems and employee records
  • Must have worked on SAP - HR Administration

Qualifications & Certifications that will contribute to your success:

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • A National Degree/Diploma in Human Resources.

Additional Requirements that will enhance your impact for success:

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of HR and Payroll systems
  • Ability and willingness to work across different business units when required
  • Occasional travel between business units
  • Must be willing to work a late afternoon shift at least once per week or when required
  • Strong understanding of HR policies, procedures and South African labour legislation
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality when dealing with employee and payroll information
