Android Developer - Mid-Level

Our client is looking for a Mid-Level Android Developer with a strong foundation in native Android development and an interest in hardware integration. The successful candidate will join a permanent on-site team and have the opportunity to build further expertise in device-layer development and payment technology.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Build and enhance native Android applications using Kotlin or Java.
• Work across Android lifecycle management, permissions and background processing.
• Integrate mobile applications with RESTful APIs.
• Handle API errors, timeouts and related integration challenges.
• Apply an understanding of secure API communication, including certificate-pinning awareness.
• Develop integrations with USB and serial-connected peripherals.
• Work with hardware devices such as scanners, printers and card readers.
• Troubleshoot issues across the application and hardware layers.
• Follow established Git/source-control practices.
• Participate in branching strategies, code reviews and pull requests.
• Assist with web front-end development using React or Vue when required.
• Expand your knowledge of Android device-layer development and payment systems.

Required Experience & Skills

• NQF 6 Diploma in IT or higher.
• WeThinkCode qualifications will not meet the minimum qualification requirement.
• 3–5 years' overall software development experience.
• Minimum 2 years' Android development experience.
• Strong native Android development skills in Kotlin or Java.
• Solid knowledge of Android lifecycle, permissions and background processing.
• Experience consuming RESTful APIs within Android applications.
• Understanding of error handling and timeout management.
• Awareness of certificate pinning and secure API integration.
• Experience using source control, including branching and pull requests.
• Practical experience integrating USB or serial peripherals on Android.

Desirable Exposure

• React or Vue development.
• Payment technology.
• Android hardware integration.
• Card readers, scanners or printers.
• Full-stack development.
• Device-layer software development.
