Software Engineer (Intermediate)

Our client is seeking a well-rounded Software Engineer to join their development team in a hybrid role based in Pretoria. This permanent opportunity is suited to a proactive developer with solid experience across back-end or full-stack development and a strong interest in modern AI-assisted development workflows.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and enhance software applications across back-end and full-stack environments.
• Design and implement reliable, scalable software solutions.
• Work with RESTful APIs and relational databases.
• Use Git and established development practices to manage and collaborate on code.
• Effectively direct AI coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex or Cursor as part of the development workflow.
• Troubleshoot technical issues and contribute to effective solutions.
• Collaborate with team members through clear and consistent communication.
• Take ownership of assigned development tasks and contribute proactively to team objectives.

Requirements

• 4–7 years of solid software development experience.
• Strong development experience in at least one of:
  • Java
  • NodeJS
  • TypeScript
  • Python
• Experience in back-end and/or full-stack development.
• University degree in Computer Science or an equivalent qualification.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• A diligent, proactive and self-starting approach.

Advantageous

• AWS experience.
• Solid understanding of RESTful API development.
• Experience with Git.
• Knowledge of relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• Java certification.
• AWS certification.
