Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Android Developer to take technical ownership of payment-device software within a specialist Device & Client Squad. This is a hardware-focused Android role requiring proven experience developing and certifying software on physical payment devices. The successful candidate will work on-site in Moreleta Park, Pretoria, where access to payment hardware is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain Android payment-device software supporting card acceptance, NFC/tap, PIN pad integration and receipt printing.
- Lead SoftPOS development in line with PCI MPoC or CPoC requirements.
- Integrate USB serial, NFC, barcode scanners and printers.
- Implement secure element, Android Keystore and TrustZone-based security measures.
- Own Visa CPA and Mastercard TQM certification processes, including submissions, defect remediation and resubmissions.
- Ensure compliance with PCI PTS and PCI-SSF requirements and provide technical evidence for audits.
- Perform root-cause analysis on certification failures and implement process improvements.
- Maintain comprehensive device-software documentation, module registers and technical runbooks.
- Provide mentorship, code reviews and structured knowledge transfer to the Mid-level Android Developer.
- Support architecture documentation and succession planning to reduce technical dependency.
Minimum Requirements
- NQF 6 Diploma or NQF 7 Degree in IT, Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field; extensive relevant payment-device experience may be considered in lieu of a formal qualification.
- 6+ years' professional Android development experience using Kotlin and Java.
- 3+ years' experience integrating payment hardware such as Urovo, PAX, Ingenico, Sunmi or equivalent devices at SDK level.
- 2+ years' experience with EMV Level 2 contact and/or contactless payment development or integration.
- Experience completing at least one Visa CPA or Mastercard TQM certification cycle, including failure resolution and resubmission.
- Practical knowledge of PCI PTS and PCI-SSF requirements.
- Production experience implementing secure element, Android Keystore or TrustZone-based security.
- Strong understanding of Android lifecycle, services, permissions and payment-interruption considerations.
- Proven ability to work directly with physical payment hardware, Android Studio, ADB and Git.
- Excellent communication, documentation and mentoring skills.
Advantageous
- SoftPOS experience and knowledge of PCI MPoC or CPoC.
- Knowledge of EMVCo QR standards.
- Familiarity with ISO 14443 and EMV Contactless specifications.
- Awareness of DebiCheck and Registered Mandates.
- Relevant Android certification or equivalent.
