Java Back End Developer |Stellenbosch

iqx the Technology Division of iqbusiness is seeking a highly skilled Senior Java Backend Developer to join a dynamic technology team responsible for building and enhancing mission-critical banking platforms. This role offers the opportunity to work on large-scale, high-performance systems that power digital banking experiences for millions of customers. The role is based in Cape-town, 4 days at the office in Stellenbosch.

As a Senior Java Backend Developer, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and delivering secure, scalable, and resilient backend solutions while collaborating with cross-functional teams in an Agile environment.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
• 7+ years of software development experience with a strong focus on Java backend development.
• Extensive experience with:
  • Java 11/17+
  • Spring Boot
  • Spring Framework
  • RESTful APIs
  • Microservices Architecture
  • SQL Databases (PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server)
  • Git
  • Maven/Gradle
• Strong understanding of software design patterns and object-oriented programming principles.

Advantageous skills

• Banking or Financial Services industry experience.
• Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
• Docker and Kubernetes.
• Apache Kafka or other messaging technologies.
• CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps.
• Experience with event-driven architectures.
• Knowledge of security best practices and regulatory requirements within banking environments.
