Job Position: Product Technician (Assembly) - automotive

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • National Diploma/Degree in Electrical Engineering (excluding heavy current) or Mechatronics; and/or
  • Trade Certificate: Auto Electrician / Electrician / Millwright
  • 3 to 5 years relevant experience in automotive assembly production with proven vehicle electrical systems and fault-finding
  • 3 years’ experience in vehicle manufacturing or a related field, with key focus on vehicle electronics
  • Proven ability to diagnose electrical faults on vehicles, including harnesses, control units, sensors and actuators
  • Experience using diagnostic tools and measurement equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret detailed technical drawings such as electrical drawings

Technical and Behavioural Competencies

  • Advanced practical fault-finding and vehicle diagnostics capability
  • Knowledge of CAN/LIN bus systems, ECU’s, electrical fitment, harness routing and common failure modes
  • Strong root cause analysis, problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to coach and train Operators/Artisans and communicate effectively at all levels
  • Proficient in MS Office, with a basic understanding of CAD viewer
  • Ability to work under production pressure and make sound decisions

Key Performance Areas

  • Provide immediate hands-on production support for electrical faults and stoppages
  • Diagnose and assist in rectifying harness issues, control unit faults and incorrect fitment/connection issues
  • Contain and recover defects quickly to minimise downtime, rework and quality impact
  • Perform root cause analysis on recurring electrical defects and drive problem sheets
  • Implement and verify corrective actions to reduce repeat failures and improve DRR
  • Identify and improve assembly process weaknesses relating to vehicle electrics
  • Propose improvements to work sequences, part handling, fitment methods and error-proofing
  • Coach and train production personnel on correct electrical fitment, fault identification and prevention
  • Support new models, model year changes and engineering changes from a buildability perspective
  • Coordinate action plans with Production, Planning, Quality and other relevant departments
