Role Description
Are you a driven and ambitious LLB graduate ready to launch your legal career?
We are seeking a personable and dedicated Candidate Legal Practitioner to join our law firm in Durban and complete their period of practical vocational training (articles of clerkship) under the supervision of a principal. This role offers hands-on exposure to family law matters, litigation, mediation, and negotiation, while you work toward admission as an attorney. Key Requirements
· LLB degree (completed)
· Registered, or eligible for registration, as a Candidate Legal Practitioner with the Legal Practice Council (LPC)
· A signed Practical Vocational Training (articles) contract, or willingness to conclude one
· Genuine interest in family law and/or commercial law
· Strong legal research and investigative skills
· Sound drafting and document review skills
· Willingness to attend the LPC's Practical Vocational Training course and sit the admission examinations
· Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills
· Ability to work under supervision while showing initiative
· Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment
· Sound understanding of relevant laws and regulatory frameworks
Key Responsibilities
· Assist attorneys with drafting, reviewing, and preparing legal documents, contracts, and agreements
· Conduct legal research to support case strategy and decision-making
· Prepare pleadings, court bundles, and correspondence under supervision
· Attend consultations, mediations, and court proceedings alongside supervising attorneys
· Monitor and help interpret relevant legal developments
· Support legal risk assessments and compliance checks
· Manage legal records and maintain accurate documentation
· Liaise professionally with clients, courts, and other stakeholders
· Collaborate with colleagues across the firm on various matters
· Fulfil all requirements of the Practical Vocational Training period as prescribed by the LPC
· Engage in ongoing professional development and training
Remuneration: Market-related Salary in line with the LPC's prescribed minimum thresholds for candidate legal practitioners
