Resident Engineer - Road Pavement Works

A leading engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Resident Engineer to join its site team on a N3 SANRAL reseal road project in the Gauteng area. This is a site-based appointment for the duration of the construction phase (approximately 22 months]. The successful candidate will act as the Engineer’s Representative on site, reporting to the Contract's Engineer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise construction of the works, ensuring compliance with the project specifications, drawings, safety regulations and quality standards.
  • Responsible for leading, coordinating and developing the full site supervision team to ensure effective delivery of the works.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and quality-assurance checks, monitor progress, and identify and manage potential risks or delays.
  • Administer the contract and manage the contractor and subcontractors to ensure delivery within the agreed programme and budget.
  • Provide technical guidance and problem-solving support to the site team.
  • Review and interpret engineering drawings, designs and specifications to ensure accurate implementation.
  • Maintain clear communication with stakeholders, including the design office, the client (SANRAL) and relevant authorities.
  • Prepare and submit progress reports, quality-control documentation, payment certificates and site records.

Minimum Requirements

  • Registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng) or Professional Engineering Technologist (Pr. Tech Eng), current and in good standing.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in road rehabilitation.
  • Sound working knowledge of SANRAL design and construction compliance standards.
  • Thorough working knowledge of the COTO specifications and Bills of Quantities.
  • Proficiency in project-management software and the Microsoft Office suite.
  • A valid Code B driver’s Licence and willingness to be based on site in the project area.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Advantageous

  • Registration with the SACPCMP as a Professional Construction Project Manager (Pr.CPM).
  • Previous experience on SANRAL road projects.
