The Junior Bookkeeper will assist with the day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting functions for a portfolio of clients. The successful candidate will be responsible for capturing financial transactions, performing reconciliations, assisting with VAT and other statutory requirements, and maintaining accurate and up-to-date accounting records.
The ideal candidate should be detail-oriented, organised and eager to develop their accounting skills within a professional accounting practice.
Bookkeeping
Capture daily financial transactions accurately and timeously.
Process supplier invoices, customer invoices and payments.
Process receipts, payments and general ledger transactions.
Perform bank reconciliations.
Reconcile creditors and debtors.
Assist with monthly bookkeeping and financial processing.
Process journals and adjustments under supervision.
Maintain accurate accounting records for a portfolio of clients.
Assist with month-end procedures and reporting.
VAT & Statutory Compliance
Assist with the preparation of VAT returns.
Assist with PAYE and other statutory submissions where required.
Ensure supporting documentation is complete and properly filed.
Assist with SARS-related queries and documentation.
Maintain awareness of relevant tax and accounting deadlines.
Client Support
Liaise with clients to obtain invoices, statements and other financial documentation.
Respond to routine client accounting queries.
Maintain professional relationships with clients.
Escalate complex accounting matters to the Accountant or Senior Bookkeeper.
Administration & Filing
Maintain accurate and up-to-date client files.
File financial documents electronically and/or physically.
Ensure supporting documentation is properly referenced and accessible.
Assist with preparation of information for annual financial statements and audits.
Maintain confidentiality of client financial information.
Grade 12 / Matric.
Accounting qualification or relevant bookkeeping certificate/diploma would be advantageous.
1–2 years' bookkeeping or accounting experience, preferably within an accounting firm.
Basic understanding of accounting principles and double-entry bookkeeping.
Experience with bank and creditor/debtor reconciliations.
Basic knowledge of VAT.
Computer literate with good Microsoft Excel skills.
Experience with accounting software such as Sage/Pastel, Xero, QuickBooks or similar.
Good numerical and analytical ability.
Strong attention to detail.
Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
