Full Job Description

High-quality imagery plays an important role in how Leather Gallery presents its products and connects with customers. Our product and lifestyle images must communicate accurate colour, materials, proportions and detail while maintaining a consistent, premium brand standard.

We are looking for a creative, technically capable and organised Junior Photo Retoucher and Graphic Designer to join our marketing team.

The primary purpose of this role is to provide photographic post-production support. The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Photographer and Videographer, taking responsibility for editing, retouching, organising and preparing product and lifestyle imagery for final delivery.

The role also includes junior-level graphic design support for campaigns, websites, social media and other marketing requirements.

This is primarily a post-production and graphic design position. Conducting photography shoots is not a central requirement.

Key ResponsibilitiesPhotographic Post-Production

  • Select and organise images from completed product and lifestyle shoots.
  • Edit and retouch product and lifestyle photographs.
  • Correct exposure, colour, white balance, perspective and backgrounds.
  • Remove imperfections and refine product details.
  • Maintain accurate product colours, proportions, textures and finishes.
  • Create consistent shadows, lighting and tonal balance where required.
  • Prepare image crops and exports for websites, online marketplaces, social media, advertising and print.
  • Perform quality-control checks before images are submitted for approval.
  • Apply feedback and complete final image refinements.
  • Name, organise, archive and maintain digital image libraries.
  • Track images through the post-production, approval and delivery process.
  • Work efficiently alongside the Senior Photographer to keep projects moving while new products are being photographed.

Graphic Design and Digital Content

  • Design static social media posts, stories, banners and other digital assets.
  • Adapt approved campaign key visuals into different sizes and formats.
  • Create and update website banners.
  • Assist with digital flyers, catalogues and promotional artwork.
  • Create product infographics and lifestyle marketing layouts.
  • Produce basic product and campaign mock-ups.
  • Design newsletters and blog covers when required.
  • Prepare presentations and brand-supporting documents.
  • Resize, format and prepare artwork for digital and print use.
  • Create simple GIFs, reels, animations or short video edits when required.
  • Follow established brand guidelines and campaign direction.
  • Keep all artwork clean, consistent, accurate and visually engaging.
  • Support the marketing team with reasonable day-to-day design requirements.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop.
  • Good working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign.
  • Familiarity with Canva is advantageous.
  • Strong photographic retouching and colour-correction skills.
  • Understanding of commercial photography and photographic post-production.
  • Good eye for product accuracy, composition, colour and detail.
  • Strong understanding of layout, typography and brand consistency.
  • Basic video-editing or motion-design skills are advantageous.
  • Good file-management and digital-asset organisation skills.
  • Strong planning and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Organised, reliable and attentive to detail.
  • Able to follow creative direction and respond constructively to feedback.
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a marketing team.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • A relevant degree, diploma or short course in graphic design, photography, visual communication, digital design, media or a related field is advantageous.
  • Demonstrable Adobe Photoshop and graphic design skills.
  • Product-retouching or commercial post-production experience is advantageous.
  • Experience preparing artwork for websites, social media or print is advantageous.
  • A portfolio containing retouching and graphic design work is required.
  • High-quality student work and personal projects may be included.

Portfolio Requirements

Applicants should provide examples of:

  • Product or commercial image retouching.
  • Before-and-after image edits, where available.
  • Colour correction and background cleanup.
  • Social media or digital campaign artwork.
  • Website banners, infographics, flyers or similar design work.
  • Basic motion graphics or video editing, if applicable.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate has a strong interest in both photographic post-production and graphic design. You should be able to take professionally photographed images and refine them into accurate, polished and consistent marketing assets.

You must be comfortable moving between detailed retouching assignments and smaller graphic design tasks while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines.
