Join a leading private healthcare group in Cape Town, Western Cape, as a Clinical Training Specialist specialising in Theatre / Perioperative Nursing.

We are looking for an experienced and passionate nursing professional who combines strong perioperative clinical expertise with a solid background in nursing education and staff development.

  • Develop, coordinate and facilitate clinical training programmes for nursing staff within the Theatre / Perioperative environment.
  • Assess the clinical competency and training needs of nursing staff and identify areas requiring development.
  • Facilitate orientation and induction programmes for new nursing employees.
  • Provide ongoing education, mentorship and clinical support to theatre nursing teams.
  • Develop and deliver training related to perioperative nursing practices, theatre procedures, patient safety and clinical standards.
  • Conduct competency assessments and maintain accurate records of staff training and development.
  • Support the implementation and evaluation of clinical education programmes.
  • Ensure training content aligns with current evidence-based practice, hospital policies and professional standards.
  • Assist with the development and updating of clinical training materials, competency assessments, guidelines and educational resources.
  • Provide education relating to infection prevention and control, patient safety, medication safety and quality improvement within the theatre environment.
  • Support staff in maintaining and developing their clinical competencies and professional knowledge.
  • Identify gaps in clinical practice and implement appropriate education and development interventions.
  • Collaborate with Theatre Managers, Unit Managers, nursing leadership and multidisciplinary teams to promote clinical excellence.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits and risk management programmes.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of training interventions and provide feedback to relevant stakeholders.
  • Mentor and coach nursing staff to promote confidence, competence and professional development.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning, accountability and evidence-based nursing practice.
  • Maintain compliance with SANC requirements, professional standards, hospital policies and applicable healthcare regulations.
  • Remain up to date with developments in perioperative nursing, clinical education and best practice.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, strong leadership and excellent communication when engaging with nursing teams and other healthcare professionals.

Education & Registration:

  • Diploma/Degree in Nursing.
  • Diploma/Degree in Nursing Education is essential.
  • Diploma/Degree/Postgraduate Qualification in Theatre / Perioperative Nursing is essential.
  • Registered with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Registered/Professional Nurse.
  • Current SANC registration and appropriate professional standing.
  • Additional training/qualifications in clinical education, facilitation or competency assessment will be advantageous.

Experience & Skills:

  • Minimum 5+ years' nursing experience, with strong experience within a Theatre / Perioperative environment.
  • Previous experience in clinical training, nursing education, staff development or clinical facilitation is essential.
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience across perioperative nursing practices.
  • Experience training and assessing nursing staff across different levels of competency.
  • Excellent understanding of clinical policies, procedures, standards and best practices within the theatre environment.
  • Strong presentation, facilitation and communication skills.
  • Ability to identify training needs and develop appropriate clinical education interventions.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and mentoring skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
