Role Purpose

The Junior Facilities Technician will support the Facilities Engineering team by providing technical, analytical, and operational assistance across building systems, maintenance activities, and infrastructure projects. This role is designed for an early-career professional looking to build practical skills and gain hands-on experience in facilities management, technical operations, and compliance.

Requirements

Education

  • National Diploma /bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, MechatronicsEngineering, or similar.

Technical Skills

  • Basic knowledge of building engineering systems.
  • Understanding of preventative maintenance principles.
  • Proficiency in MS Office; exposure to CAFM/CMMS is beneficial.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and manuals.

Soft Skills

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritise and multitask.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to safety.

Experience

  • 6 - 12 months experience in engineering, construction, or facilities environments are advantageous

Duties and Responsibilities

Technical Support & Maintenance

  • Assist with monitoring, operation, and troubleshooting of building systems (HVAC, electrical,mechanical, plumbing, fire systems, other electronic systems).
  • Support implementation of preventative and corrective maintenance schedules.
  • Conduct routine site inspections to identify technical issues and risks. Participate in standbyduties and provide after-hours and weekend support as required to ensure operationalcontinuity and timely resolution of critical issues.
  • Log and track maintenance tasks, contractor work, and job completion data.

Facilities Operations

  • Assist in coordinating service providers and contractors, ensuring compliance with SLAs and safetystandards.
  • Support coordination of repairs, upgrades, and small works projects.
  • Participate in asset management processes, including equipment tagging and lifecycle monitoring.

Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and regulations.
  • Assist with documentation for audits, compliance checks, and inspections.
  • Support environmental, sustainability, and energy-efficiency initiatives.

Data, Reporting & Administration

  • Collect and analyse facilities-related data.
  • Prepare technical reports and dashboards.
  • Maintain documentation including drawings, manuals, permits, and logs.

Stakeholder Support

  • Engage with internal stakeholders to understand facilities needs.
  • Communicate with vendors, contractors, and cross-functional teams.
  • Support customer service by assisting with issue resolution.
