Purpose of the job

The Business Analyst (BA) is responsible for independently owning and delivering assigned projects and change initiatives from initial analysis through implementation. The role combines business and technical analysis to translate business needs into clear, feasible process, data, integration and system requirements. The BA proactively engages business, client, operational and technical stakeholders, manages delivery within agreed scope and timelines, and escalates material risks or decisions when required. The BA Team Lead provides guidance, quality oversight and support, while the BA remains accountable for day-to-day project execution, stakeholder communication and delivery outcomes. The role also includes normal SDLC responsibilities, systems testing and a component of production support.

Main Duties And Responsibilities

  • Independently own and run assigned projects and change initiatives through the full delivery lifecycle, from initiation and analysis to implementation and post-implementation review, with guidance and support from the BA Team Lead where required
  • Plan and coordinate BA deliverables, manage priorities and dependencies, monitor progress against agreed scope and timelines, and proactively escalate risks, issues and decisions
  • Lead stakeholder engagement across business, operations, clients, vendors and technical teams, including facilitating workshops, clarifying decisions, managing expectations and providing clear progress updates
  • Perform detailed business and technical analysis of processes, systems, data, interfaces and integrations to assess feasibility, dependencies, impacts, risks and solution options
  • Elicit, analyse, document and validate business, functional, non-functional, data and integration requirements, including process flows, business rules, user stories, use cases, acceptance criteria and interface or data-mapping specifications
  • Translate business requirements into clear, testable specifications for process and system enhancements, Business as Usual (BAU) changes and production support items
  • Work closely with developers, solution architects, testers, production support teams and third-party vendors to ensure a shared understanding of requirements and technically sound solutions
  • Perform data analysis and interrogation using SQL and other relevant tools to support requirements validation, reconciliation, root-cause analysis and decision-making
  • Conduct impact and gap analysis across upstream and downstream systems, operational processes, data flows, controls, reporting and client or regulatory obligations
  • Support solution design by evaluating options and documenting assumptions, constraints, dependencies, risks and recommended approaches
  • Own requirements traceability and change control, ensuring that agreed requirements are maintained throughout design, build, testing and implementation
  • Develop test scenarios and test cases; perform or support system, integration and user acceptance testing; manage defects through to resolution; and confirm that delivered solutions meet agreed acceptance criteria
  • Perform root-cause analysis and coordinate the resolution of production support issues within agreed service level agreements (SLAs)
  • Prepare implementation, operational-readiness and handover documentation and support go-live, post-implementation verification and transition into BAU
  • Identify and drive improvements to business processes, controls, documentation and the structures within which the Business Solutions team operates
  • Maintain complete and accurate project and analysis artefacts in line with agreed governance, SDLC and audit requirements

Ideal Experience

  • At least 3 years’ experience in Unit Trust and LISP administration, including discretionary, life and retirement products
  • Good understanding of end-to-end investment administration processes
  • At least 5 years of formal business and process analysis experience across the full SDLC
  • Demonstrated experience in independently owning and delivering projects or material change initiatives, including planning BA activities, coordinating dependencies and managing delivery through implementation
  • Strong technical-analysis experience covering applications, data, interfaces, integrations, process flows and downstream impacts
  • Proven experience engaging and influencing stakeholders at different levels, facilitating workshops, resolving ambiguity and communicating project status, risks and decisions
  • Experience producing high-quality business, functional, non-functional, data and integration requirements and maintaining requirements traceability
  • Practical experience in data analysis, data mapping, reconciliation and root-cause investigation using SQL and related tools
  • Experience in process improvement and process definition, with a proven track record of driving and implementing improvements
  • At least 3 years’ software-testing experience as part of the BA competency, including test preparation, execution and defect management

  • Business analysis qualification (Diploma or higher)

Software, Systems Knowledge

Essential

  • Experience of full Microsoft office suite, including Advanced Excel and Visio or equivalent
