Assistant Resident Engineer - Road Pavement Works

HHO Consulting Engineers, a leading engineering consultancy, is seeking an experienced Assistant Resident Engineer to join its site team on an N3 SANRAL reseal road project in the Gauteng area. This is a site-based appointment for the duration of the construction phase (approximately 22 months]. The successful candidate will function as the Assistant Engineer’s Representative on site, reporting to the Resident Engineer.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Resident Engineer with the supervision, administration and delivery of civil infrastructure projects.
• Monitor construction progress, productivity and compliance with approved programmes, specifications and contract requirements.
• Manage and coordinate site supervision personnel, including inspectors, technicians and support staff.
• Oversee quality assurance and acceptance control testing to ensure compliance with project standards and specifications.
• Administer measurement of works, payment certificates, variations, dayworks and associated contract records.
• Review contractor submissions, method statements, quality documentation and work procedures.
• Monitor contractor performance and compliance with contractual, statutory and health and safety requirements.
• Maintain accurate site records, progress reports, meeting minutes, photographs and other project documentation.
• Liaise with contractors, stakeholders, service providers and client representatives on technical and contractual matters.
• Support the Resident Engineer in expenditure monitoring, project reporting and financial control.
• Coordinate the preparation of as-built information, completion documentation and project close-out reports.
• Contribute to the successful delivery of projects through effective contract administration, quality management, stakeholder engagement and risk mitigation.

Minimum Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years’ experience in road rehabilitation.
• Sound working knowledge of SANRAL construction compliance standards.
• Thorough working knowledge of the COTO specifications and Bills of Quantities.
• Proficiency in project-management software and the Microsoft Office suite.
• A valid Code B driver’s Licence
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Advantageous

• Pr. Tech Eng or Pr. Techni Eng Registration with ECSA will be advantageous
• Registration with the SACPCMP as a Professional Construction Project Manager (Pr.CPM).
• Previous experience on SANRAL road projects.
