Mid-Weight Digital Designer
Stormers Rugby
Join the team behind the team.
At the DHL Stormers, the rugby happens on the field. Our job is everything around it: the stories, the moments and the campaigns that make being a Stormers fan feel like being part of something bigger.
That is what we are building, and we are looking for a Digital Designer to help us do it
About the club
We are Cape Town's premium rugby club and one of the biggest brands in club rugby, globally. Record crowds fill DHL Stadium, our support is loyal and diverse, and our rugby is world-class.
Under one brand we field three teams, from the senior DHL Stormers side to our Currie Cup and junior professional sides. But we are more than a rugby team. We are a lifestyle, entertainment and sports brand, and whether you are on the field, in the stands or behind the scenes, the belief is the same. We are in it together.
Why this role, why now
Our commercial team is growing, and fan expectations are rising with it. More content, more moments, more reasons to stay close to the club all season long. So, we are bringing design in-house, for someone who can match the volume and speed the modern game demands without dropping the quality our supporters expect.
You will be joining a team of powerhouses who bring the vibes, roll up their sleeves and get things done, together. If that sounds like your kind of room, keep reading.
Where you’ll sit
You will be part of the Commercial team, working hand in hand with our content crew (a videographer/ editor content producer and photographer) as well as our PR and Communications Manager and reporting to the Senior Marketing Manager. This is an in-office role based in Cape Town, with match-day and occasional weekend commitments through the season.
What you’ll be doing
No two weeks look the same. One day you are on matchday graphics, the next a campaign, an email build, a merch drop or a piece of DOOH you will point out to your mates on the drive home.
Day to day, you are the one making the work that keeps our fans engaged and our brand recognisable across all touchpoints. It is high-volume and fast-turnaround, so you will also build the templates and systems that help you move at pace, then design from them.
- Design the day-to-day content across our socials, website, email and paid media, from a single matchday graphic to a full campaign rollout. This is the heart of the role.
- Design the collateral required for both internal and external use such as presentations, signage, print collateral, stationary, merchandise etc.
- Build the season templates, and toolkits that keep the output fast and consistent, and put them to work.
- Keep room in the tank for the tactical and ad-hoc work rugby throws up each week.
- Help shape and evolve our creative direction, so the brand keeps moving forward.
- Work with the content team to bring ideas and campaigns to life across formats and channels.
- Balance the needs of the wider business while always making the work better.
Most importantly, you will help us keep pushing the quality of content our fans genuinely care about.
We are in it together
We are looking for a doer: organised enough to run a packed season, and confident enough to take an idea and run with it. You will sit in team meetings, spot opportunities and kick off projects. We will point you at the goal and trust you to find the best way there, without every detail spelled out.
You are the kind of person who sees a moment at training and starts picturing the content. Who arrives with references already saved, and spots a trend and asks, “How do we make that feel like the DHL Stormers?”
Our ambition is not to keep up with other teams. It is to raise the bar for what our fans expect from their rugby club.
What we're looking for
You have probably got around four to six years in digital, graphic or multidisciplinary design, ideally including real experience building design systems rather than just one-off assets. But we care more about your thinking and your portfolio than the number on your CV.
- You understand typography, hierarchy and composition, and how to make things feel premium, exciting and unmistakably on-brand.
- You think in systems, not just single designs, and you are organised with it.
- You care about the details, and you move quickly without cutting corners.
- You can juggle multiple projects and shifting priorities without losing your head or your sense of humour.
- You are curious, proactive and always collecting inspiration.
- You enjoy feedback and problem-solving.
- Most importantly, you bring energy. The room should feel more creative because you are in it.
Skills & experience
- Strong Adobe Creative Suite skills, particularly Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
- Proficiency in Figma for building and maintaining design systems, templates and toolkits.
- Proven experience building style guides, systems and scalable creative toolkits.
- Experience designing for social media, digital campaigns and paid media.
- Experience across both digital and print production.
- Experience creating email and CRM assets, plus assets for websites and digital platforms.
- A strong grasp of design fundamentals and brand systems.
Bonus points for UX/UI, motion graphics, content creation or working alongside video teams.
You'll probably enjoy this role if...
You love sport, not necessarily because you play it, but because you get what it means to the people who do. Supporters are not just an audience. They are communities, traditions and weekends planned around kick-off, and you enjoy making work that meets that energy.
We are an in-office team because collaboration matters and this role cannot be done from a distance. Some days you are at head office at DHL Stadium with the marketing and content teams, others prepping for match day at DHL Stadium. We take the work seriously because supporters deserve our best, but we do not take ourselves too seriously. Expect high standards and honest feedback, plus plenty of banter and people who jump in when it counts.
And the best part? You are not designing for a brand, you are part of the club. You will know the players and coaches, celebrate the wins and feel the losses. It is fast, demanding and occasionally unpredictable, but if you get energy from good people doing great work, you will feel right at home.
