We are currently hiring a Transformer Design Engineer (Mechanical / Electrical) in South Africa on behalf of a very large and well-established manufacturer of distribution transformers, supplying utility, industrial and mining clients across the region.

Position: Design Engineer (Mechanical / Electrical)

Industry: Power equipment manufacturing — distribution transformers

Qualification: Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.

Location: South Africa

2. Experience Required

a. Minimum 10 years' experience in electrical work — generation, transmission, distribution, maintenance or consulting.

b. Experience in a manufacturing environment will be beneficial.

c. Sound understanding of electrical standards and practices — IEC, SANS, IEE and similar.

d. Ability to draw in AutoCAD — 2D and 3D.

e. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and ERP systems (Syspro an advantage).

The role itself covers design of transformers up to 20 MVA, failure investigation, costing, and technical inputs into tender submissions, reporting directly to the Engineering Manager.
