As an Intermediate Software Engineer at Octoco, you will play a key role in building and delivering high-quality software solutions across a range of projects. You’ll take ownership of features, collaborate closely with your team and clients, and contribute meaningfully throughout the full development lifecycle.

What You’ll Be Doing

Software Engineering

  • Break down complex problems into clear, actionable tasks.
  • Develop clean, maintainable software using a range of languages and frameworks.
  • Own features or modules from design through to development, testing, and deployment.
  • Contribute to system design, estimation, and delivery activities.
  • Ensure solutions meet technical requirements, business objectives, and quality standards.

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with engineers, technical leads, and product stakeholders.
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute thoughtful, constructive feedback.
  • Support and mentor junior developers in their technical growth.
  • Actively engage in planning sessions, retrospectives, and team meetings.

Client Engagement

  • Translate business and user needs into effective technical solutions.
  • Build strong, professional relationships with clients and internal teams.
  • Identify opportunities to improve system performance and service delivery.

What We’re Looking For

  • A Bachelor of Engineering or BSc in Computer Science.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in software engineering.
  • Proficiency in 2+ programming languages or frameworks (e.g. C#, TypeScript, Python, .NET, React, Angular). Flutter experience is advantageous.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Clear communication and effective collaboration skills.
  • A sense of ownership and reliability when delivering work.
  • Curiosity and willingness to learn in a fast-evolving technical environment.
  • Must be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or hold a valid work visa/permit.
