Coal/Ash & Bulk Materials Handling Engineer Consultant - Mpumalanga (Contract Position)

An established energy and infrastructure client is executing major ash disposal facilities and bulk materials handling construction, upgrades, and expansions across coal-fired power stations. We are looking for an experienced Coal/Ash and Bulk Materials Handling Engineer Consultant to provide senior engineering oversight, technical support, and project delivery from design and tendering through to construction, commissioning, and handover. Based on-site across various Mpumalanga Power Station sites with readiness for site-based execution support. Note: this is a contract position ending in December 2028.

• Lead design & engineering oversight for Ash Disposal Facilities, coal stockyards, stackers/reclaimers, and BMH systems.
• Perform technical reviews of tender documentation, project documentation, and Technical Construction Packages prior to tendering and during execution.
• Provide extensive project engineering support throughout tendering, construction, commissioning, testing, and sectional/full handover.
• Coordinate interface requirements across civil, structural, hydraulic, process, mechanical, and piping disciplines.
• Drive supplier and stakeholder engagement across capital and operational divisions.
• Support change management and operational readiness for long-term plant operations.
• Act as an on-the-ground escalation point for complex construction execution and implementation challenges.
• Resolve continuous operational issues within tight or prescribed timelines to ensure plants return to service efficiently.

• BSc in Civil or Mechanical Engineering, BTech in Civil or Mechanical Engineering, OR Master Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
• ECSA Registration.
• Minimum 15 years total engineering experience.
• Minimum 10–15 years in a senior position specifically within coal, ash, and Bulk Materials Handling (BMH).
• Ash Disposal Facilities (ADF), Pollution Control Dams (PCDs), Clean Water Dams (CWDs), and drainage systems.
• Bulk Materials Handling (BMH) systems, conveying systems, and ancillary works.
• Emergency ash/coal stackers, reclaimers, and coal stockyard infrastructure.
• Pump stations, pipelines, transfer houses, and mechanical installations.
• Technical Construction Packages review, interface management, and integration specialist requirements.
• Major earthworks, civil concrete works, simulation modelling, and mass/water balance systems.
• Construction oversight, testing, commissioning, and plant return-to-service operations.
• Deliverables: Senior consulting reporting, oversight reporting, readiness documentation dashboards, and assessments throughout project execution, testing, and handover.
