Cost Commercial Lead

Our client is seeking an experienced Cost Commercial Lead to join their Johannesburg team, supporting major transport and utilities infrastructure projects. This is an opportunity for a commercially astute quantity surveying professional with strong cost management, contract administration and execution-stage experience across complex infrastructure environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates, Bills of Quantities and cost plans for major infrastructure projects.
• Provide cost advice throughout the design and construction lifecycle.
• Lead tender and procurement processes, including tender documentation and bid evaluations.
• Negotiate with contractors, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Manage post-contract cost control, including valuations, payments, variations and final accounts.
• Administer contracts in accordance with FIDIC, NEC and JBCC standards.
• Assess contractual claims, extensions of time and variations.
• Prepare monthly cost reports, cash-flow forecasts, variance analysis and Estimated Final Costs.
• Identify cost risks and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
• Lead value engineering initiatives and identify opportunities for improved project value.
• Support the management, development and growth of the project team.
• Contribute to bids, new business opportunities and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Quantity Surveying or Civil Engineering.
• Professional Quantity Surveyor (PrQS) registration with SACQSP is mandatory.
• Minimum 10 years’ quantity surveying experience within construction, civil or infrastructure projects.
• Strong understanding of commercial management, procurement and construction contracts.
• Proficiency in Dimension X (DIMX), CostX, WinQS and Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with rail, aviation or port infrastructure will be highly beneficial.
• Excellent analytical, negotiation and communication skills.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and teams simultaneously.
