Category Manager: Spare Parts & Logistics
Ad-Hoc
The Category Manager for Spare Parts is strategically responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle, commercial performance, and availability of elevator and escalator components across South Africa. This role combines advanced commercial management expertise with highly technical global supply chain execution. Because building mobility assets demand minimal downtime, the successful candidate must balance precise digital planning in SAP S4/Hana with an aggressive sense of operational urgency to resolve critical stock shortages, coordinate complex customs clearances, and maintain strong customer lifelines.

- Drive cost-reduction initiatives without compromising on the uncompromising safety and quality standards required for lifting equipment.
- Execute and analyse the SAP S4/Hana MRP run every single morning to generate accurate purchase requisitions.
- Audit material master data continuously to ensure system parameters mirror actual transit times, local market demand shifts, and technical supersessions.
- Work together with the rest of the purchasing team on system best practices to eliminate manual, off-system ordering
- Receiving purchase requisitions from users
- Placing purchase orders with suppliers as per purchase requisitions received
- Receiving purchase order confirmations from suppliers and communicating such back to user
- Inform Suppliers of Incoterms where applicable
- A minimum of 5–8 years of experience directly managing complex technical inventory, with heavy preference given to the elevator/escalator, heavy machinery, automotive, or industrial engineering sectors.
- Proven track record acting in a Commercial Role—managing multi-million Rand budgets, analysing total cost of ownership (TCO), and steering financial performance.
- Demonstrated capability to align inventory investments directly with corporate revenue goals, cash flow targets, and strict service level agreements (SLAs).
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Logistics, Commerce, or a related Business/Engineering discipline.
CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply) membership or a post-graduate business qualification would be advantageous.
